Valérie Fourneyron (born October 4, 1959 in Le Petit-Quevilly , Département Seine-Maritime ) is a French politician of the Parti Socialiste (PS), Mayor of Rouen from 2008 to 2012 and Minister of Sport, Youth, May 2012 to March 2014 public education and community life.

Life

Degree, doctor and local politician

After attending school, Valérie Fourneyron studied medicine and graduated as a doctor of medicine . She later attended advanced training courses at the Collège des économistes de la santé (CES) in the subjects of biology and sports medicine and also obtained a diploma in sports traumatology . After she was head of department for sports medicine in the Ministry of Youth and Sports between 1989 and 1991 , she became regional medical inspector for youth and sports and later worked as a sports medicine specialist.

Her political career began in local politics when she was elected as a representative of the PS in 1995 to the city ​​council of Rouen, of which she was a member until 2004. During this time she was also first vice-mayor of Rouen from 1998 to 2001 and as such was responsible in particular for the areas of sport, urban politics, health and safety.

She also became involved in the region Haute-Normandie , where she was from 1998 to 2007 Vice President of the Regional Council, first as responsible for the area of sports and, most recently from 2004 to 2007 in the areas of sports, culture, youth and community life. At the same time, she was a member of the General Council of the Seine-Maritime department between 2004 and 2008 .

From 2008 she was mayor of Rouen.
