Administrative division of Mali
The West African state of Mali is divided at the highest level into eight regions (régions) and a capital district. The regions are divided into a total of 49 districts ( cercles ) , the capital district includes the city of Bamako, which is divided into six municipalities.
The municipalities ( communes ) form the lowest administrative level , of which there are 19 urban and 684 rural municipalities.
