Pallacanestro Virtus Roma is an Italian basketball club based in Rome . The club colors are red, blue and yellow.

history

Virtus rose to Serie A in 1980 . Only 3 years later the club celebrated its first and to this day only championship. In 1984 followed the great triumph at the European level, as Virtus in the finals of the national champion Cup to FC Barcelona defeated and also the Intercontinental Cup secured. In the following year Virtus reached the semi-finals of the national championship cup. Further international titles followed with the Korać Cup wins in 1986 and 1992.

In the Italian championship, however, Virtus could not quite build on the success of 1983 and only reached the final again in 2008, which was followed by another runner-up in the 2012/13 season. After the 2014/15 season, the club withdrew from Serie A1 due to a lack of sponsors to compete in Serie A2. In the 2018/19 season, he was promoted again in Serie A.

Hall

Virtus Roma plays its home games in the 3,500-seat Palazzetto dello Sport . After winning the Italian championship in 1983, the company moved to the 13,200-seat Palazzo dello Sport hall , but had to return to the Palazzetto dello Sport from 2000 to 2003 due to the renovation of the hall.

The return to the larger hall, now renamed PalaLottomatica and reduced to a capacity of 10,500 spectators, in the 2003/04 season was short-lived because of the maintenance costs. It was not until the play-off home games in 2004/05 that they moved back to PalaLottomatica for a few years. Due to the still high maintenance costs, the club played its home games again in the smaller Palazzetto dello Sport from the 2011/12 season. After the 2017/18 season, the club announced the return to the larger PalaLottomatica.
