The forest hoof village Voigtsgrün was mentioned in 1460 under the name "Voyczgrün". Since 1551 one is in Voigtsgrün Vorwerk mentioned that as the basic rule about the place for manor Planitz belonged. Between 1572 and 1579 it was together with the Planitz Castle in the hands of Georg von Schönburg auf Glauchau and Waldenburg , who sold the property to the Wittenberg law professor Joachim von Beust (1522–1597) as early as 1579 . The son, Heinrich von Beust, exchanged ownership in 1617 for Schloss Netzschkau with Christoph von Reibold, who a year later handed it over to the chief chamberlain, Rudolph Apel von Vitzthum von Eckstedt , from whom the Zwickau council acquired it. Elector Johann Georg I bought the Planitz estate with the Vorwerk Voigtsgrün in 1623. His successor, Elector Johann Georg III. , swapped the manor Planitz including the Vorwerk Voigtsgrün with three von Arnim brothers in 1689 for Castle Pretzsch near Wittenberg.

In contrast to the neighboring village of Hirschfeld in the Wiesenburg office , Voigtsgrün belonged to the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon Office of Zwickau until 1856 . In 1856 the place was affiliated with the Kirchberg court office and in 1875 with the Zwickau administration . With the opening of the Zwickau – Falkenstein railway line , Voigtsgrün received a train station on November 29, 1875. An animal enclosure with fallow deer had existed on the premises of the von Arnim family since 1870, from which the Hirschfeld zoo developed in 1956 . At the end of 1933 the rule of Planitz was divided. The Planitz part with the palace and park area went to the Planitzer Sparkasse for 100,000 Reichsmarks, while the von Arnim family kept the Voigtsgrün Vorwerk until it was expropriated as part of the land reform in the Soviet occupation zone in 1945 .

On July 1, 1950 Voigtsgrün was incorporated into Hirschfeld. As a result of the second district reform in the GDR , Voigtsgrün came as a district of the Hirschfeld community in 1952 to the Zwickau-Land district in the Chemnitz district (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which was continued as the Saxon district of Zwickau from 1990 onwards District of Zwickauer Land and 2008 in the district of Zwickau. Voigtsgrün is church-wise to this day not to Hirschfeld, but to Ebersbrunn .
