Maria Walburga Wilhelmina Schauseil (born May 28, 1860 in Düsseldorf ; † June 2, 1951 in Bad Godesberg ) was a German concert singer ( soprano ), particularly appreciated by Johannes Brahms and Max Bruch .

Her grandfather Johann Gottlieb Schauseil (1804–1877) was a singer and military musician , her father Wilhelm Schauseil (1834–1892) was music director and enjoyed a good reputation in the Rhineland as a pianist , conductor and founder of the Düsseldorf Bach Society , while he was only a composer was able to penetrate a few choral movements. Wally Schauseil played the Piano Concerto by Friedrich Burgmüller 1860 in Bonn under Albert Dietrich , and also in 1860 and again in 1864 in Dusseldorf under Julius exchange .

Life

Wally Schauseil received her vocal training from Oscar Lindhult (1869–1870) in Cologne and from the great educators Francesco Lamperti in Milan and Julius Stockhausen in Frankfurt am Main . She devoted herself entirely to working as a concert and oratorio singer and never appeared on stage .

Their debut took place in Düsseldorf in 1878. In 1879 she participated in the Lower Rhine Music Festival . After initially performing in West German cities, she expanded her concert activities and now appeared in Bremen , Frankfurt a. M., in Karlsruhe , Breslau and especially often in Berlin , where she could be found regularly in the years 1885-1892. In Dresden and Leipzig she was a soloist in the famous Gewandhaus concerts . She also had great success with foreign appearances. She sang several times in Holland , as well as in Sweden , France and Italy .

As early as 1900 she gave up her concert career in order to devote herself to intensive work in the educational sector. In 1903 , after graduating from the Conservatory , Hedy Iracema-Brügelmann deepened her vocal training with her. From 1904 to 1908 Wally Schauseil worked as a music teacher at the Cologne Conservatory . Later she went to Bad Godesberg near Bonn, where she died very old.

Highlights in her concert repertoire were solo parts in the St. Matthew Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach , in the Messiah and Judas Maccabaeus by Georg Friedrich Handel , in the two oratorios The Creation and The Seasons by Joseph Haydn , in Paradise and the Peri by Robert Schumann and in the oratorio Christ by Franz Liszt .
