Walter Schönenbröcher (* 1964 in Bergisch Gladbach ) is a German photographer and filmmaker .

Life

Walter Schönenbröcher was born in Bergisch Gladbach in 1964 and grew up in Cologne , where he graduated from high school in 1983. From 1984 to 1990 he studied mathematics and economics at RWTH Aachen University and at the Technical University of Berlin , which he gave up when he founded his first IT company. From 1988 to 2014 he was the managing partner of an Internet group of companies with several companies. In 2010 Walter Schönenbröcher started taking photos. From his initial nature and architecture photography he came to portrait photography, where he carried out commissioned work for public figures from the fields of film, music, politics, sport and business.

Those portrayed include Urs Rechn , Ottfried Fischer , Alice Brauner , Alexander Knappe , Kathrin Clara Jantke , Helmfried von Lüttichau , John Friedmann , Roman Roth , Micky Brühl Band , Elin Kolev , Simon Desue , Alberto , Hans Scheuerecker , Günther Rechn , Trixi Worrack , Dirk Rohrbach , Holger Kelch and Evan Christ.

Between 2010 and 2016, Walter Schönenbröcher expanded his portfolio at Italian Vogue to include more than 230 photos and achieved a total of ten "BEST OF" titles with his works.

In early 2011, alongside other artistic projects, he started the historical documentation HANDwerk , which documents rare and endangered craft professions. In 2016, the State of Brandenburg supported this photo series with a nationwide traveling exhibition as part of the Brandenburg Year of Culture. In addition to the Brandenburg State Parliament , the works were also exhibited in several Brandenburg museums. The project now comprises more than 45 trades with a total of more than 600 works.

In September 2016 he married the German composer and singer Kathrin Clara Jantke , with whom he has lived in Cottbus since 2013 .

Walter Schönenbröcher has been working as a filmmaker again since 2017. Under his production company Whitestag he produces several virtual reality film series and short films using stereoscopic 360 ° film technology. This includes the cinematic continuation of his contemporary documentary HANDwerk, with which he won the insta360 Award in 2018 and 2019 nominations at international film festivals (Nashville Film Festival 2019, FIVARS 2019, nextreality.contest 2019, London Lift-Off Film Festival 2019, Ambacht in Beeld Film Festival Amsterdam 2020).

Since 2018 Walter Schönenbröcher has also been producing a virtual reality film series "Artists Up Close", in which he portrays art award winners on film. These include well-known artists such as Günther Rechn , Matthias Körner , Kani Alavi , Hans-Georg Wagner , Jörg Engelhardt, Rita Grafe and Chris Hinze. This documentary won several international awards at international film festivals, such as B. in Los Angeles (USA), Barcelona (Spain), Punhaka (Buthan), Tagore (India) and Varese (Italy).
