Wassili Dmitrijewitsch Polenow
Vasily Dmitrievich Polenov ( Russian Василий Дмитриевич Поленов ., Scientific transliteration Vasilij Dmitrievič Polenov ; born May 20, . Jul / 1. June 1844 greg. In St. Petersburg ; † 18th July 1927 in Borok, Tula Governorate ) was a Russian painter and educator .
Life
Polenow came from an aristocratic family with many children . His father Dmitri Wassiljewitsch Polenow was a historian , archaeologist and diplomat . His uncle Matwei Wassiljewitsch Polenov was one of the reformers of the Russian judicial system. His younger sister Jelena Dmitrijewna Polenowa was a painter and illustrator .
He received his education at the grammar school in Petrozavodsk . He then enrolled at the St. Petersburg Art Academy and studied with Pavel Petrovich Tschistjakow , among others . In 1869 he was awarded a gold medal for his painting Job and his friends (Иов и его друзья). The following year he received another gold medal for his work Христос воскрешает дочь Иаира .
In 1872 he finished his studies at the law faculty of St. Petersburg University at the same time . After that he decided to go abroad. He visited Vienna , Munich , Venice , Florence and Naples . He also lived in Paris for a long time . There his painting Арест графини д''Этремон was created .
In 1876 he returned to Russia. Soon afterwards he went to the Russo-Turkish War , during which he became the official court painter at the Tsarist headquarters of Alexander III. has been. After the end of the war, he settled in Moscow , from where he embarked on another extended journey in 1884, which took him to Istanbul , Palestine , Syria and Egypt .
