The older, horseshoe-shaped lower village emerged as part of the planned German colonization in the east after the Wende uprising in the middle of the 12th century. There are graves in the village for two men known by name, a Ukrainian and a French , who were abducted to Germany during the Second World War and were victims of forced labor .
On January 1, 2010, the previously independent municipalities of Wegenstedt, Berenbrock (with Elsebeck and Lössewitz ), Dorst , Grauingen , Klüden , Mannhausen , Velsdorf and Zobbenitz merged with the town of Calvörde to form the new municipality of Calvörde.
