The FFH area Welzheimer Wald is a protected area (protected area identifier DE-6726-341) in the German state of Baden-Württemberg that was registered in 2005 by the Stuttgart regional council in accordance with Directive 92/43 / EEC (Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive) . With the ordinance of the regional council of Stuttgart on the definition of areas of community importance of October 30, 2018, the area was determined.

The 976.89 hectare protected area belongs to the natural areas 107- Schurwald and Welzheimer Wald and 108- Swabian-Franconian Forest Mountains within the main natural unit 10- Swabian Keuper-Lias-Land .
It consists of numerous sub-areas and extends over the markings of thirteen cities and municipalities in the Rems-Murr district and in the Ostalb district: Alfdorf , Althütte , Kaisersbach , Murrhardt , Rudersberg , Schorndorf , Urbach , Welzheim , Durlangen , Gschwend , Mutlangen , Ruppertshofen and Spraitbach .
Description and purpose of protection
The protected area includes larger contiguous meadow valleys in the midst of large forests, near-natural flowing waters with wooded fringes, wooded blades and gorges. There are ten caves in the area.

Contiguous protected areas
The FFH area overlaps with several landscape protection areas . Large parts of the area are in the Swabian-Franconian Forest Nature Park . The Geldmacherklinge natural monument is also located in the FFH area. The following nature reserves are wholly or partially in the area:
