action
The magician Santini is actually called Stefan Müller and was a Nazi. Only his manager Jesse Jerome knows and uses it to blackmail him. While performing his water tank trick, he carries out the murder of Jesse disguised as a waiter. He speaks over a radio microphone to a waiter who brings him a brandy. Santini burns the letter to the immigration authorities and the evidence of his origin. First he withholds the alibi from Columbo with the excuse that he does not want to reveal the trick. In the end, Columbo Santini can prove the motive for the murder from the imprints on the ribbon. As a subplot, Columbo has got a new dark gray coat from his wife, in which he cannot think. From the middle of the episode he wears his old beige coat again.
