Werner Fritz Heinrich Erdmann von Heynitz (born February 11, 1854 in Fraustadt , † March 20, 1928 in Wernigerode ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

Werner came from the Meissen noble family von Heynitz . He was the son of the secret government and district administrator Ernst von Heynitz (1799–1871) and his wife Marie Agnes, née von Diebitsch (1814–1885).

Military career

Heynitz visited the cadet schools in Wahlstatt and Berlin . On October 18, 1871, he was transferred to the 3rd Guard Grenadier Regiment Queen Elisabeth of the Prussian Army as a Second Lieutenant . For training purposes he was assigned to the Guard Pioneer Battalion in June / July 1877 and to the Central Gymnastics Institute from March to the end of July 1879 . By September 1887 Heynitz was promoted to captain and from March 22, 1888 to September 11, 1895, he served as chief of the 11th company. Then promoted to major and aggregated into the regiment , Heynitz was transferred to the Oldenburg Infantry Regiment 91 on June 16, 1896 as commander of the 1st Battalion . From there he came to the staff of the 4th Lower Silesian Infantry Regiment No. 51 in Breslau on February 25, 1902 and rose to lieutenant colonel on April 22, 1902 . With his promotion to colonel , he was appointed commander of the infantry regiment "Hiller von Gärtringen" (4th Posensches) No. 59 in Deutsch-Eylau on January 27, 1905 . On November 18, 1907 was adjusted Heynitz with the statutory board for planning and appointed him commander of the military training area Döberitz . In this position, he received on January 27, 1909 character as a major general , and on 16 January 1910 the Crown Order II. Class. Heynitz was dismissed from his post on February 21, 1911, when he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd Class with Oak Leaves.

With the outbreak of the First World War , Heynitz was reused as a ZD officer and appointed commander of the 14th Landwehr Infantry Brigade, with which he was deployed on the Western Front . Awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class there, he received the patent for his rank on December 24, 1914 and shortly afterwards took over the 17th Reserve Infantry Brigade. During the fighting off Verdun , Heynitz had to give up his command due to illness. His mobilization provision was then repealed on January 9, 1915. After his recovery, Heynitz was no longer fit for front use. Therefore, he acted from August 27 to November 22, 1915 as commander of the 16th Infantry Brigade in Torgau and then the 15th Infantry Brigade in Halle (Saale) . In this position he was given the character of Lieutenant General on September 20, 1918, and his mobilization provision was revoked on November 10, 1918.

He was a legal knight of the Order of St. John .

family

Heynitz had married Elisabeth von Wrochem (1865–1934) on October 26, 1889 in Hirschberg . The marriage remained childless.
