history
The song was written by Terry Britten and Graham Lyle and was originally intended for Phyllis Hyman . However, the authors were inspired by Tina Turner's divorce to let her sing the title. On the B-side of the single is Rock and Roll Widow . The music video , shot in New York City, was directed by Mark Robinson. The music video was at the MTV Video Music Awards 1985 in the category Best Female Video award.
In 1992 the piece served as the soundtrack for the film Tina - What's Love Got to Do with It? and was also used as a namesake.

The piece received awards for Song of the Year 1985 , Record of the Year 1985, and Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female at the 1985 Grammy Awards . What's Love Got to Do with It ranks 316 out of the 500 best songs of all time by music magazine Rolling Stone .

In 1996 a hip-hop version by Warren G and Adina Howard with modified lyrics appeared, which was also successful. In other titles, the piece was covered and parts of it were sampled .
