Wicko Morskie [ ˌvʲit͡skɔ ˈmɔrskʲɛ ] (German Vietzkerstrand ) is a village in the Polish West Pomeranian Voivodeship . It belongs to the rural community Postomino ( Pustamin ) in the powiat Sławieński ( Schlawe district ).

Geographical location

The farming and fishing village of Wicko Morskie is located 20 kilometers north of Sławno and 18 kilometers northeast of Darłowo ( Rügenwalde ) on a spit between the Jezioro Wicko ( Vietzker See ) and the Baltic Sea . The place is laid out on a peninsula that protrudes into the lake, and directly opposite on the other shore of the lake was the village of Wicko ( Vietzke ) , which gave the lake its name .

Wicko Morskie is bordered in the west by Jezierzany ( Neuhagen Amt ) and Jarosławiec ( Jershöft ), in the north by the Baltic Sea , in the east by the no longer existing Królewice ( Krolowstrand ) and in the south by Jezioro Wicko .

history

It is not known when the site was created. In 1788 four families with 15 members are said to have lived here, and in 1805 school children were already teaching - albeit only a few. It is assumed that Vietzkerstrand was originally a mining of Vietzke (Wicko) with some families to use the fishing rights on the lake, which were due to the landlord of Vietzke.

The village itself was probably not created until the population increased in the 19th century: in 1818 there were 65 inhabitants, in 1871 there were 230, and in 1939 315 people lived here.

Until 1945 Vietzkerstrand was with the communities Görshagen (Górsko), Krolow (Królewo) (with Vietzke (Wicko)), Marsow (Marszewo) and Schlackow (Złakowo) to the administrative district of Schlackow in the district of Schlawe i. Pom. linked to the Prussian province of Pomerania in the administrative district of Köslin Also a civil communities were oriented to Schlakow. District court area was Schlawe .

On March 8, 1945, the Red Army occupied the village. As a result, Vietzkerstrand became Polish and is now part of the Gmina Postomino in the Powiat Sławieński of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship (until 1998 Slupsk Voivodeship ) under the name Wicko Morskie .

Today 60 people live here.

Military site

In the 30s of the 20th century, the place lost its face when Vietzkerstrand was made the center of air defense training and a practice shooting range was set up with a target towards the Baltic Sea. The Feldflak Arillerieschule XII Stolpmünde also had a military airfield . At the Vietzkerstrand Air Base , which could be used by both land and sea planes, flying squadrons were only stationed towards the end of the war. In February 1945 the I. Group of Nachtjagdgeschwader 100 (I./NJG 100) was located here . Franz Josef Strauss was stationed here in 1943.

The site is still used for military purposes today, to which the nearby town of Krolowstrand (Królewice) was sacrificed. To the east of the village is the "Lotnisko Wicko Morskie" airfield on the edge of the "Poligon Ustka ( Stolpmünde ) - Wicko" military training area . The only runway used is 09.

Local division until 1945

Before 1945 there was still a place to live in the municipality of Vietzkerstrand:

  • Finnkaten (Polish: Samborze), farmstead, 1 kilometer west of the village on the way to Jershöft.

church

Before 1945 Vietzkerstrand was a purely Protestant place. The nearest church was the village church in Lanzig (Łącko), whose parish included six villages in the neighborhood. It was in the parish of Rügenwalde (Darłowo) of the church province of Pomerania of the Church of the Old Prussian Union .

Since 1945 the population of Wicko Morskie is almost without exception Roman Catholic . Today the church is located in Jarosławiec ( Jershöft ), where its own church was built in 1989. It is a branch church of the parish Łącko ( Lanzig ) in the deanery Ustka ( Stolpmünde ) in the diocese of Köslin-Kolberg of the Catholic Church in Poland . Evangelical church members are assigned to the parish offices in Koszalin ( Köslin ) and Słupsk ( Stolp ) in the diocese of Pomerania-Greater Poland of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland .

school

Before 1945 there was a single-class elementary school in Vietzkerstrand.
