Business field rail passenger transport

The company operates the 30.4 kilometer long rail link between Vienna Opera and Baden Josefsplatz ( Lokalbahn Wien – Baden , also called Wiener Lokalbahn or Badner Bahn ). The line runs between the Vienna Opera and Schedifkaplatz stations on the Vienna tram route . The line then runs on a route that is operated by Wiener Lokalbahnen as a railway infrastructure company: from Vienna Schedifkaplatz to Baden Leesdorf as a full line and from Baden Leesdorf to Baden Josefsplatz as a tram. With the exception of a single-track section within Baden, it is a double-track and fully electrified railway line . The train stops at a total of 34 stations and stops, with the stop at Karlsplatz in Vienna only being served in the direction of the Vienna Opera. The Wiener Lokalbahn transports 30,000 people to work, school, Shopping City Süd or various events along the railway line every day .

Since 2011, the WLB has also been active in external rail passenger transport on the ÖBB network, guiding special trains in the nostalgic area and handling special transports, pilotage services and the provision of locomotive drivers.

Business field bus passenger transport

The WLB itself currently operates bus routes 357, 358, 359, 360, 361 and 362 in the Eastern Region Transport Association . These lines run in and around Baden. Lines 357, 358 and 359 are the three Baden Citybus lines. Line 360, the so-called Casinobus Baden , runs on the Vienna Opera - Baden - Bad Vöslau - Gainfarn route and has been included in the NightLine network of Wiener Linien since March 26, 2006 . Line 361 runs between Baden, Oeynhausen , Möllersdorf, Bad Vöslau and the industrial center of Lower Austria South . Line 362 runs within Baden and connects the station on the one hand with Rauhenstein and on the other hand with the hospital and the Haidhofsiedlung.

Re-entry into the Vienna public transport

As of October 2020, the WLB will be returning to regular bus services in Vienna. As of October 1st, lines 47A, 49A, 50A and 50B will be operated by Wiener Lokalbahnen as a direct award from the sister company Wiener Linien . Furthermore, the WLB were able to secure lines 7B (from February 1, 2021) and 16A (from January 1, 2021) for about six years.

The subsidiary WLV is also active for Wiener Linien in Vienna and has been operating all night-on-call bus routes and the 25B on-call bus since March 2020.

Subsidiaries

Wiener Lokalbahnen Cargo GmbH (WLC)

Freight train with a locomotive of Wiener Lokalbahnen Cargo

Wiener Lokalbahnen GmbH has the driving license for all railway lines in Austria and in the EU. The WLB carry out freight traffic both on their own infrastructure (with their own diesel locomotives ) and on third-party (with their own diesel and electric locomotives ); There are also some own freight wagons in the fleet. The following driving material is in use:

  • a diesel locomotive, series 2064, built by the former Jenbacher works
  • three diesel locomotives, V100 / series 2000.

The WLC has also rented 12 Eurosprinter ES64 U2 locomotives from Dispolok and five Eurosprinter ES64 U4 locomotives owned by WLC. In addition, the WLC has had a Siemens Vectron (193 980) since the beginning of December 2014, and at the beginning of 2017 three new electric locomotives from Bombardier (TRAXX AC3) were added to the fleet.

Three class 182 electric locomotives (identical to the Austrian class 1116) are known as Bosporussprinter , as they are equipped with the train control systems of the railways in Hungary (EVM 120), Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey. These locomotives are used for the "East Line Shuttle" (Duisburg - Enns / Krems / Vienna - Budapest) that runs during the week in cross-border traffic to and from Hungary.

In addition, nine electric locomotives of the class 182 (same as the Austrian class 1116) and five of the class 1216/183 are mainly used in German north-south traffic (North Sea ports - Austria) and in traffic to the Slovenian port of Koper.

Two electric locomotives of the 1216/183 fleet carry a full advertisement designed by corporate customers, these are the 1216.954 »Hödlmayr« and the 1216.955 »Roland Spedition«.

All locomotives, with the exception of two 1216 with full advertising for corporate customers and the locomotive 83 (Jenbacher, this is painted red), bear the paint of the WLC. The colors are the house colors blue and cream white.

The freight transport division was spun off at the end of 2007 (entry in the commercial register on September 5, 2007) and is run as a wholly-owned subsidiary under the name Wiener Lokalbahnen Cargo GmbH (WLC). In 2006 sales reached EUR 26.1 million. The target for 2008 is an increase in the annual number of trains from 2500 to 3000, with the combined freight traffic being expanded in particular .

Accident in freight traffic

On June 9, 2013, a Sunday at around 5:20 a.m., the last four wagons of a 620-meter-long and 750-tonne car transport train operated by Wiener Lokalbahn Cargo GmbH on the right-hand Rhine route shortly after Lorch (Rheingau) derailed and were about ten kilometers dragged along before the train was stopped in Rüdesheim (Rhine) station . The train was on an empty journey from Emmerich am Rhein to Passau . He left considerable damage to the track system. Several kilometers of ballast stones were thrown onto the lane of the parallel federal highway 42 . In the track , the derailed cars cut cables, destroyed cable ducts in the electronic signal box , damaged points, overturned signal masts and destroyed thresholds and railings. The entry signal was carried away at Rüdesheim station. When passing through Assmannshausen , the window panes of a number of houses standing close to the tracks and parked road vehicles were damaged by flying gravel. People were not injured in the accident.

Road traffic was closed until 11:30 a.m. so that the road maintenance department could clear the gravel from the roadway with clearing vehicles . Rail traffic on the right-hand Rhine route was completely suspended by June 16. A replacement rail service had to be set up between Rüdesheim and Kaub . From June 17, only one track was available for train traffic between Kaub and Geisenheim.

Wiener Lokalbahnen Verkehrsdienste GmbH (WLV)

The main field of activity of this company is the transport of partially severely disabled people. The bus travel division of the WLB, which previously belonged to the transport services, was outsourced and incorporated as an independent division of the bus travel division into the WLV.

The fleet consists of over 98 Mercedes minibuses, all of which are fully equipped for disabled people, and a number of coaches, mostly from the manufacturers Setra , Volvo and Neoplan .

In 1968 a travel agency was initially only opened in Baden near Vienna to round off and better utilize bus capacities . Taking into account the increasing interest of the public, a branch was also set up in Vienna. All travel agency agendas were taken care of by the two branches (IATA agency contract, official train ticket sales point of the Austrian Transport Office ) and travel offers from all well-known tour operators were arranged. The travel service branch was able to advertise 20 years of experience in travel management in 1988, the year in which Wiener Lokalbahnen celebrated its centenary .

Wiener Lokalbahnen Busbetrieb GmbH (WLBB) (until 2012)

Public bus of the WLBB

The Viennese local railways bus operation GmbH (WLBB) was founded in 2004 and was operational since the beginning of 2005. The first two lines of the WLBB were the bus lines 27A (from June 2, 2005) and 37A (from October 9, 2005), which were operated on behalf of Wiener Linien . On February 1, 2006, the operation of bus routes 16A and 60A was transferred from the AG der Wiener Lokalbahnen to its subsidiary WLBB. As a result, only the bus routes in the Baden area and overland routes to and from Vienna are operated by the AG der Wiener Lokalbahnen itself. From August 6, 2006, the WLBB operated the Vienna bus route 80A instead of the ÖBB- Postbus GmbH as a contract service. On June 13, 2008 there was a line swap with Wiener Linien. Line 27A was handed over and the operation of lines 67A and 70A was taken over. Line 60A was handed over to Blaguss on September 4, 2009 . On January 2, 2010, the newly introduced line 33A was taken over.

The Viennese local railways bus operation GmbH was March 1, 2012. together with the lines 16A, 33A, 37A, 67A, 70A and 80A and the "Ikea Bus" and the fleet of WLBB from traffic operation Gschwindl bought and still exists today under the name of Herbert Gschwindl Buslinien GmbH .

New business areas

In 2008, the Aktiengesellschaft der Wiener Lokalbahnen took over parts of the ailing C & K Airportservice Transportgesellschaft mbH and its other companies for around three million euros through its subsidiary Wiener Lokalbahnen Verkehrsdienste GmbH . However, since only parts of the company were purchased, there was no legal succession. The brand and the telephone number were retained, the vehicle fleet was renewed and the employees were also taken over on the basis of the collective agreement customary in the industry.

In the meantime, "C & K" has been sold to the company Blaguss , which has been operating the "C & K" brand since July 1, 2011, parallel to "Airportdriver".
