Wiktar Karachun ( Belarusian Віктар Карачун , Russian Виктор Карачун / Wiktor Karachun; born August 12, 1968 in Minsk , Belarusian SSR ; † August 11, 2004 in Heilbronn , Germany ) was a Belarusian ice hockey player who played in the German ice hockey league for the Augsburg League and Revierlöwen Oberhausen stood on the ice.
Career
The 1.87 m tall center initially played for HK Dinamo Minsk in the second and later in the first Soviet division and in 1993 moved to Podhale Nowy Targ in the Polish Ekstraklasa . In the following season he wore the jersey of the league competitor Stoczniowiec Gdańsk and then signed a contract with the German second division EV Landsberg for the 1995/96 season . Via the Heilbronner EC , Karachun came to the Augsburg Panthers in the German Ice Hockey League in 1997 .
After 38 games, however, the striker returned to the second division, where he was initially on the ice for EHC Neuwied . In 1999 , the Belarusian moved again to the DEL to play for the Revierlöwen Oberhausen against relegation for one season. After a year with EC Wilhelmshaven-Stickhausen , Karatschun signed a contract with Heilbronn EC for the second time in his career, for which he played in the 2nd Bundesliga until shortly before his death.
After the Belarusian had to undergo an abdominal operation in 2001 and initially returned to ice hockey, Viktor Karachun succumbed to cancer shortly before the start of the 2004/05 season . In November, his former teammates held a charity match for the benefit of his bereaved.
International
With the Belarusian national team , Viktor Karachun took part in five world championships between 1995 and 2002 , scoring ten goals and 13 assists in 25 games . He was also on the ice for "Team Belarus" at the 1998 Olympic ice hockey tournament.
