William B. Coley Award

The William B. Coley Award for Distinguished Research in Basic and Tumor Immunology is a scientific award given by the Cancer Research Institute in New York City (an institution of the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research ). The prize is awarded for outstanding achievements in the field of basic immunological research and cancer immunology.

The award is endowed with US $ 5,000 (as of 2011) and named after William B. Coley , the founder of cancer immunotherapy and father of the founder of the Cancer Research Institute , Helen Coley Nauts. In the year it was first awarded (1975), the prize was awarded to 16 personalities who were considered to be the founders of cancer immunology .
