The Homelskaja Woblasz ( Belarusian Гомельская вобласць ; Russian Гомельская область / Gomelskaja Oblast ) is an administrative district in southeast Belarus . The capital of Woblasz is Homel (White. Гомель ; Russian. Гомель / Gomel).

Homelskaja Woblasz has an area of 40,400 km² and has 1,422,941 inhabitants (2016). The following types of use apply:
- Agricultural areas: 13,736 km² (34%)
- Forest areas: 18,180 km² (45%)
The Woblasz is one of the regions hardest hit by the Chernobyl disaster , which is why many people are resettled from here to the north of the country in the Wizebskaja Woblasz or to Minsk . The German non-profit organization Heim-statt Tschernobyl , which in conjunction with the Belarusian partner organization “ÖkoBau”, has made a significant contribution to the resettlement . B. The Homelskaja Woblasz borders in the west on the Breszkaja Woblasz , and in the north on the Woblasze Minskaja and Hrodsenskaja in Belarus. In the east it borders on the Bryansk Oblast in Russia . In the south it borders on the Chernihiv , Kiev and Zhytomyr oblasts in Ukraine .
Rivers and bodies of water
The largest navigable rivers are the Dnepr (420 km), Prypiat , Sosh and Bjaresina . The Sosh and Bjaresina form the largest tributaries of the Dnieper in the region. The Ubarz, the Slavechna and the Schalon, however, form right tributaries, the Ipa a left tributary of the Prypiat.

The south in particular is characterized by Pripyat and Dnepr. There are also many canal systems in the region to drain wetlands over the Dnieper and Pripyat. The largest lake in the region is Lake Chyrwonaje with 43.6 km².
