Baron Wolf George von Eberstein also Wolf Georg von Eberstein (born July 8, 1724 in Gehofen , † July 31, 1779 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major .

Life

Origin and family

Wolf George was a member of the Frankish noble family Eberstein . He was the tenth of 14 children of the Electorate of Saxony captain , and heir to Gehofen and Jaucha Wolf Dietrich von Eberstein (1681–1742) and Sophie Elisabeth von Rockhausen († 1738). Wolf George was not married and died without leaving any children.

Career

Eberstein joined the Prussian army as a cadet at the age of 17 . In 1742 he was assigned to the "Kleist" infantry regiment (No. 26) and in 1746 became ensign . He was promoted to second lieutenant in 1748 and prime lieutenant in 1756 , to staff captain in 1758 and to real captain in 1760 and finally to major in 1773.

He then became commander of the 3rd Grenadier Battalion , which also comprised the grenadier companies of the regiments " Steinkeller " (No. 26) and "Rentzell" (No. 23) .

Eberstein fought with the Prussians in the Second Silesian War and the Seven Years' War , especially in the battles near Prague , Roßbach , Leuthen , Hochkirch , Torgau and Freiberg . At the end of November 1778 he earned the order Pour le Mérite in the War of the Bavarian Succession .
