Wolfgang Born (General)

Wolfgang Born (born November 9, 1949 in Landau in the Palatinate ) is a lieutenant general a. D. of the Air Force of the German Armed Forces and was most recently Head of the Personnel Department (P) in the Federal Ministry of Defense .

Life

Military career

Training and first uses

After graduating from high school in 1968, Born joined the German Army as an officer candidate in the Air Force . After training as an officer, he was promoted to lieutenant in 1971 and since then has served as a platoon leader in the 4th company of the Air Force Officer Training Battalion and then as a first lieutenant and lecture hall director at the Air Force Officer School (OSLw). From 1976 to 1979 Born served as the squadron chief of the NCO training and security squadron (ULS) of Fighter Bomber Wing 34 in Memmingen . During this use he was promoted to captain .

From 1979 to 1981 Born was employed in Hanover as an adjutant to the commander of the Military District Command II, Major General Wilhelm Garken .

Service as a staff officer

From 1981 to 1983 Born completed the national general staff course at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg and was then promoted to major . From 1983 to 1985 he served on the staff of the 2nd Air Force Division in Birkenfeld as Head of the Personnel Department (A1). Afterwards Born was transferred to Cologne-Wahn , where he served from 1985 to 1987 as a department head at the Air Fleet Command under the command of the Chief of Staff , Brigadier General Peter Haarhaus and Siegfried Pacholke .

In 1987 Born finally moved to the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn , where he was employed as a consultant in the personnel department (P IV 1) until 1989. From 1989 to 1991 Born commanded the 2nd Battalion of Air Force Training Regiment 2 in Budel, the Netherlands, as a lieutenant colonel . From 1991 to 1993 Born was again employed in the Ministry of Defense, this time as a consultant in the planning department (P IV 3).

In 1993 he was finally on leave to work as a speaker in the German Bundestag .

Back in service, Born was deployed from 1995 to 1996 in the Cologne Air Force Office as Chief of Staff to Major General Botho Engelien . Born was then transferred to Bonn , where he served in the Federal Ministry of Defense , first in the Air Force Command Staff (FüL IV 1) and then from 1998 to 2000 in the Personnel, Social and Central Department (PSZ IV 5) as Head of Division.

Service in the rank of general

With his promotion to Brigadier General , Born took over the post of Head of Staff Department I in the Air Force Command Staff (FüL I) under the command of the Chief of Staff, Major General Heinz Marzi , and was thus responsible for personnel, training and organization. On September 22, 2003, Born took over the air force training command in Cologne-Wahn from Brigadier General Bodo Blaas and led this until 2005.

In 2005 Born took over the personnel office of the Bundeswehr, also based in Cologne . During this employment he was promoted to major general. In 2006 he handed this command over to Brigadier General Manfred Schlenker . On December 1, 2006, he finally took over the post of Deputy Head of the Personnel, Social and Central Department (PSZ) in the Federal Ministry of Defense from Major General André-Dieter Gubernatis , headed by Georg Wilmers. On April 1, 2010 Born Wilmers finally succeeded to the post of head of department and was promoted to lieutenant general at the same time . In addition, Born was commissioned by Defense Minister Thomas de Maizière in June 2011 to lead the individual project groups for realigning the Bundeswehr personnel management / recruiting , reform support program and education and qualification landscape.

On September 11th, 2014, Lieutenant General Wolfgang Born was honored with a big tattoo . His service ended on September 30, 2014.

Private

Born is married and has two children.
