Wolfgang Hinze (actor)

Wolfgang Hinze (born February 25, 1935 in Leipzig ) is a German actor and director .

Life

Wolfgang Hinze grew up in Leipzig and Tübingen . From 1953 to 1955 he trained as an actor at the Max Reinhardt School in Berlin . This was followed by theater engagements at the Städtische Bühnen Krefeld (1955–1957), at the Heilbronn Theater (1957/58 season), at the Saarbrücken State Theater (1958/59 season) and at the Schiller Theater in Berlin (1960–1963). During this time, Hinze played the classic role of the teenage lover and the teenage hero. His early roles included: Ferdinand in Kabale und Liebe , Orestes in Iphigenie auf Tauris , the title role in The Prince of Homburg , the title role and the role of Marquis von Posa in Friedrich Schiller's Don Carlos and Claudio in Maß für Maß .

From 1963 to 1966 Hinze was a permanent member of the ensemble at the Wiesbaden State Theater . From 1966 to 1969 he was engaged at the Städtische Bühnen Frankfurt under the direction of Harry Buckwitz . From 1970 to 1980 another permanent engagement at the Kölner Schauspielhaus followed . Hinze was seen there in several productions by Roberto Ciulli : as Malvolio in William Shakespeare's Was ihr wollt (1973), as an officer in August Strindberg's Traumspiel (1975), as Calogero in The Great Magic by Eduardo De Filippo (1977) and 1978 as Christian mask in Der Snob by Carl Sternheim .

In 1980 Hinze went to the Stuttgart State Theater under the direction of Hansgünther Heyme , where he stayed until 1983. From 1983 to 1986 he was then a member of the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus . In the 1980s, Hinze made the change to the character subject. In 1982 he took over the role of Dr. Schön in Lulu by Frank Wedekind in a production by Günter Krämer . In the 1985/86 season, the title role in Professor Bernhardi by Arthur Schnitzler followed at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus .

At the beginning of the 1986/87 season, Hinze finally moved to the Bavarian State Theater in Munich , of which he was a permanent member until 2010. Later he occasionally appeared there as a guest. Hinze continued to play at the Münchner Kammerspiele . There he played the role of Doge of Venice in Shakespeare's Othello in an adaptation by Feridun Zaimoglu from 2007 and again in the revival in the 2008/09 season .

At the Bavarian State Theater in the 1980s and 1990s, Hinze was seen in the following roles, among others: 1988 as Pope in Der Stellvertreter von Rolf Hochhuth , 1990 in the title role of Cyrano der Bergerac by Edmond Rostand , 1992 in the title role of Gerhart Hauptmanns Michael Kramer , 1992 as Pastor Manders in Gespenster von Henrik Ibsen , 1993 as Capulet in William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet , 1994 as Gajew in Anton Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard , 1995 as King Philip in Don Carlos and 1997 as Vershinin in Chekhov's Three Sisters .

In 1989 Hinze gave the title role of the play Korbes by Tankred Dorst at the Mülheimer Theatertage . The performance received the Mülheim Dramatist Prize in 1989 .

Hinze occasionally worked as a director. In 2009 he staged a version of Don Carlos by Friedrich Schiller at the Die Column Theater in Duisburg .

The focus of Hinze's artistic activity has always been on the theater. Hinze played mainly from the 1990s on but also in some feature films and television films, often in literary adaptations and in crime films. His portrayal of the seedy medical doctor Dr. Graefe in the Tatort episode Unlatched , the last case of Commissioner Hanne Wiegand, played by Karin Anselm .

Hinze worked extensively as a speaker for radio plays and audio books . He also appeared frequently as a reciter .
