Wolfgang Trampe

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wolfgang Trampe (born January 1, 1939 in Berlin ) is a German writer who has published in a wide variety of literary genres and was also active as a publisher's editor and editor .

Life

Wolfgang Trampe was born in Berlin in 1939. After attending secondary school with a high school diploma , he studied at the State Drama School in Berlin . He then worked as an actor at the Parchim State Theater for a year. In his job, however, he was dissatisfied, which led him to write, first poetry , then also prose , because, as he stated, prose can present what is to be expressed more comprehensively. So he later processed his discomfort with acting in the novel Behavioral Days , which experienced an unintended autobiographical continuation in changes in the higher semesters . - Planned as a stand-alone novel, it had "somehow developed there". From a literary perspective, both novels can be assigned to the socially critical socialist Bildungsroman .

From 1962 to 1967 he studied German and art history at the University of Rostock . He then became an editor at Aufbau-Verlag and from 1977 a freelance author. This was followed by publications in numerous magazines and anthologies and finally several book publications. In the course of his writing career, other literary and journalistic forms were added.

Quotes

“A good poem that can and wants to have an effect seems to me to consist of heightened sensation, which finds its fulfillment in the process of transformation, the development of language and meaning in increased knowledge. This process does not run linearly, not in a straight line from the sensual idea to the rational goal. The idea will mostly contain knowledge, a quintessence that represents the first image in the poem. It is not without preconditions, although it emerged as if by chance, it establishes the first, the essential reference that spans the poem like a network. "

- Hitchhiking on poetry : 1972

“After all, prose means above all communication, understanding with the reader. I cannot imagine a prose that only speaks “to itself”, a text of this kind at all. Of course, the question always remains whether you can reach others with your work. But the wish that this may succeed is probably a basis of writing. "

- Trampe on prose : 1982

criticism

The poems, wrote the literary criticism , gave insight into the human psyche , which sometimes corresponds with nature and history (“the small and the big”). Hitchhiking would get along here “without excessive verbosity and boldness”. A characteristic of the "coherent poems" is the lack of metaphors .

The short prose in general and thus also that Trampes is characterized by a "pronounced lack of action"; there is a concentration on a detail, a situation. It also often includes an inconspicuous punchline . The " miniatures that sometimes tend to lyricism " testify to "a conscious and disciplined work with language"

The novel Behavioral Days was said to have a “sensory narrative style”, which is still too seldom to be found in GDR literature . "[D] ichthy, precise, pictorial, and sensual, [...] suggestive in the good sense" is the language. In addition, there is “a deep power of observation in the character characteristics, as it were under the magnifying glass of a psychologist , a person who knows people”. The book gains "its attraction more from the restrained, quiet tones", it says in another review . The psychologically and philosophically illuminated descriptions of people and situations are " rich in associations , lyrically shortened, enriched by sentences, comparisons, symbols, leaps and bounds at times" and demanded empathy from the reader . The changes in the higher semesters are not only linked to the previous novel in terms of content, but also stylistically, because Trampe dipped deep into the psyche of his protagonists : “The author is primarily concerned with the psychograms of his characters, with illuminating their mental and spiritual realities . One analytical scene follows the other; a larger, encompassing story arc is not conveyed, rather a mosaic of impressions is created . ”The impressionistic structure of moods, parables and networked relationships stand out, summarizes a review, and marks a“ step on the way into new areas of literary imagination ”.

The people in the stories were "deeply explored psychologically", but this did not apply, it was argued, for the portrayal of children, which could be due to Trampe's own lost childhood through war and post-war hardship . In addition, the inherent complexity of the stories was criticized. "The causal connections and moments of the inner conflicts are too ramified to be able to cite them with brief information". This criticism closes with the statement: “Many of the literary figures of Trampe are gripped by an insecurity from which they want to free themselves, which they try to make themselves aware of. Perhaps that is the subject of the prose writer Wolfgang Trampe. ” According to literary criticism, the dance lesson collection was only partially successful, because in addition to the pieces that could impress with their precision and density, narrative weaker ones would be confused or redundant or vague or clichéd due to impression . For a lecturer, style blunders are unforgivable , and some content is banal and sometimes incomprehensible. The New Germany found: “Trampe's prose is excellent when he illuminates human depths and shallows with his ironic - satirical talent. Unfortunately, he uses this gift too seldom. [...] Even in prose language, Trampe cannot deny the poet in himself. Almost every thing, every process is given an idiosyncratic, sometimes daring image, which promotes visual power and charisma of the texts as a whole, but sometimes turns out to be manner . "

Trampe received the sharpest criticism regarding his adaptation of Rudolf Frank's novel Fair play , namely for the abbreviations, reformulations and misspellings in the alleged ignorance of Viennese localities and idioms .
