Wulf Architekten is a German architecture firm with headquarters in Stuttgart .

history

The office emerged from the architectural office founded by Tobias Wulf in 1987 and is now managed by Tobias Wulf , Jan-Michael Kallfaß, Ingmar Menzer and Steffen Vogt. From 1996 to 2018 Kai Bierich and Alexander Vohl worked as partners of Tobias Wulf at wulf architects. The increasingly international activity led to further branches - for example in Berlin and Basel , Switzerland.

Currently (2019) the office employs around 140 people, nine of them as lead architects. In addition to their office work, the managing directors are also involved in teaching, in design advisory boards and in juries.

The focus of the construction work is on public buildings in the areas of culture, education and research as well as offices, trade and social affairs, sometimes also for private clients. Since the turn of the millennium in particular, building in existing structures, innovative energy concepts and major infrastructural projects such as trade fairs and cultural buildings have been part of the architectural office's repertoire.

A large part of the project orders are based on competitive successes such as the new campus building of the Bern University of Applied Sciences (1st prize, 2019), the German Embassy in Tbilisi , Georgia (1st prize, 2014), the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) in Bonn (1st prize, 2011), the State Office for Finance in Landshut (1st prize, 2006), the adidas factory outlet in Herzogenaurach (1st prize, 2002) and the Neue Messe Stuttgart (1st prize, 2000). Since the office was founded in 1987, around five hundred competitions have been processed, 65 of which have been awarded 1st prize.

The four primary schools in Munich represent a key project with a modular design . According to the specifications of the Munich City Council, the design for the four primary schools is based on the educational concept of the “Munich Learning House”. This takes architectural, pedagogical and school organizational aspects into account, enables contemporary learning and thus guarantees a high quality of education and teaching. The project plays a pioneering role in German school construction, as it was created as a pilot project for modular construction.

Another outstanding project is the DZNE in Bonn. It is characterized in particular by the fact that it takes a position on all three dimensions of sustainability - ecology, economy and socio-cultural aspects - and also takes into account the aspects of technical quality and process quality. It is the first laboratory building in Germany to receive the “Gold” certification from the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Homeland, according to the Sustainable Building Assessment System for Federal Buildings (BNB).

The New Stuttgart Trade Fair Center , completed in 2007 , which emphasizes the relationship to the surrounding landscape with its curved roofs and glass facades, is one of the office's first key works. This major project, which includes 7 exhibition halls, a congress center and an event hall, documents the intensive examination of the special features of a location. Tobias Wulf explains: "Our design does not exclusively follow functional requirements - these must be fulfilled of course - but it was essentially based on overarching criteria of the landscape and the perception of space." tenth hall, which is spanned by 68 meter long laminated wood beams. In planning are currently u. a. another exhibition hall, a second congress center and another large car park.
