Location of Yahyalı County in Kayseri Province

Yahyalı is a city and a district in the Turkish province of Kayseri in central Anatolia .

The county

Yahyalı is the southern district of the province, the substantially by the steep slopes in this area of the Taurus Mountains belonging Aladaglar is characterized. The Zamanti River runs through the district . The city of Yahyalı is the capital of the district of the same name. According to the 2007 census, there were 38,274 inhabitants in the district.

An approximately 300 km² area of the district belongs to the wooded Aladağlar National Park , the largest part of which belongs to the province of Kayseri, but which also extends partly to the districts of Çamardı in the province of Niğde and Aladağ in the province of Adana .

Yahyalı is increasingly striving for tourism, mainly within the national park area. There, the Zamanti River is becoming a magnet for rafting enthusiasts both in Turkey and for foreigners . The entire national park is also used for trekking and alpine activities such as mountain hiking and mountaineering. The trails start at the seven glacial lakes at an altitude of 3500 m near the entrance to the national park.

The region has rich deposits of iron , zinc and lead ores , which have been increasingly mined in recent years.

The Kapuzbaşı waterfalls are located near the city on the slope of the Aladağlar. The largest of them is fed by an underground river running through the rock and can carry a lot of water in spring.

In addition to mining, the inhabitants still have agriculture and animal husbandry as a source of income. Yahyalı is also known for its traditionally hand-knotted carpets , which are dyed with natural materials.

In the language spoken here in the region, many terms and idioms are used daily by the locals, which you will search in vain in dictionaries, they only seem to exist in Yahyalı. The origin of these words is unknown, but most are used according to the rules of the Turkish language .
