The Expressway 171 is a dual carriageway in South Korea . The southern part is more of a connection between the Expressway 153 which is under construction and Suwon with a length of 2 kilometers. The northern part, the longer section of the highway, goes from Suwon to Seoul , about 23 kilometers in length. The northern part crosses several other motorways , but has no connection with them. The highway is more of a fast connection between Suwon City and the metropolis of Seoul. The total length is 25 kilometers.

Street description

Northwest of Osan and south of Suwon City , Expressway 171 begins at an intersection with Expressway 153 , a highway from Pyeongtaek to Ansan that is under construction. This part of Expressway 171 is 2 kilometers long and ends south of Suwon.

The second part begins north of Suwon. Suwon is a city of around one million people. Here the Expressway 50 is crossed, an east-west highway from Seoul via Incheon to Ansan on the east coast of South Korea. The motorway runs through a forest and mountain area and through the suburbs of the city. The highway has a large number of tunnels and a toll booth north of Suwon. In Seongnam City , Expressway 100 and Expressway 1 will cross, with no connections to the other highways. In the south of Seoul, the highway ends in an urban street.

history

The population growth in the Seoul region increased rapidly, so that the existing highways, especially Expressway 1 , were no longer sufficient. In 2000, therefore, work began on building an additional motorway. This should connect the large suburbs from Suwon to Seoul in order to separate the local commuter traffic from through traffic and to create a direct connection. Construction of Expressway 171 began in 2005 and opened on July 1, 2009 with the longer section from Suwon to Seoul. The short stretch south of Suwon was opened on October 29, 2009.
