The Expressway 100 ( kor. 서울 외곽 순환 고속도로 , in German "Seoul Outer Ring Highway") is an expressway in South Korea . The road is a 128 kilometer long ring highway around the capital Seoul . The numbering of the 32 motorway exits begins at the Pangyo intersection on the south side of the city and then runs counter-clockwise around the metropolis. The road is toll.
Street description
Expressway 100 begins on the south side of Seoul near Pangyo City at an intersection with Expressway 1 , which runs from Seoul to Busan . The highway here has 2 × 4 lanes and turns quickly north, followed by the tollbooth of Seongnam , a city with a million inhabitants. A local road with 2 × 3 lanes runs next to the motorway, resulting in 14 lanes next to each other. The highway then runs over a viaduct over the eastern suburbs of Seoul and goes through a tunnel through an 8-lane ridge. Then comes the departure to the city of Hanam , where the Expressway 35 starts and heads towards Daejeon , one of the largest cities in the middle of the country.
The Expressway 100 then goes over a motorway junction and runs north with 2 × 5 lanes. A little further follows the bridge over the Han River , which consists of three parts with a total of 10 tracks. A toll booth follows in the north, followed by Guri , a town with around 200,000 inhabitants. The ring road then turns west and takes Seoul in a relatively large arc to the north. There are few exits with other roads on this section, although several had been planned. The highway is now narrowing to 2 × 4 lanes and has several long tunnels through the mountains north of Seoul.
The Incheon Bridge crosses the Han River for the second time, on the west side of Seoul. At the level of Gimpo International Airport is an intersection with Expressway 130 , the freeway to Incheon International Airport , which is located on an artificial island off the coast. The highway also has 2 × 4 lanes west of Seoul and along the city of Bucheon , a city of 850,000 people that lies between Seoul and Incheon. The motorway runs right through the city with many tall apartment buildings on both sides of the motorway. The freeway turns east here and intersects Expressway 110 in southwest Seoul .
It now comes to a semi-urban area with some hills and forests, although large cities are not far away. There are also 2 × 4 lanes here. North of Ansan is an intersection with Expressway 15 , a highway from Seoul to Gwangju . Then there are a couple of tunnels and a series of viaducts through a narrow valley where the southern suburbs of Seoul are. In Anyang is an intersection with District Road 309, a road from Anyang to Suwon , a city south of Seoul. Not far from here, the Expressway 100 returns to its starting point.
history
The construction of the ring road of Seoul began in the late 80s, with the construction of the intersection at Pangyo with the Expressway 1 in 1988. 1987 was Expressway 35 opened in the east of Seoul, by the later section part was the Expressway 100th On November 29, 1991, the first section of Expressway 100 southeast between Pangyo and Henam was opened, which is the route between Expressway 1 and Expressway 35. On December 10, 1992, a second section opened between Incheon and Namyangju in the northwest of the city. On July 20, 1995, a small piece west of Pangyo on the south side of Seoul opened and the highway was expanded to include another exit to the west. On November 3, 1997, a section opened in the west of Seoul, which closed the ring road on the southwest side.
Since Seoul is near the border with North Korea and there are no major cities or main roads in between, construction of the northern part of the ring was only completed later. On December 28, 2007, the last northern part of the motorway opened, completing the ring road .
