Yorgos Dimitriadis

Yorgos Dimitriadis (* 1964 in Thessaloniki ) is a Greek jazz and improvisation musician ( drums , percussion , composition ).

Live and act

Dimitriadis played in local rock and blues bands in the 1980s . After studying percussion at the New Conservatory of Thessaloniki, he moved to Boston , where he continued his education with Alan Dawson and Bob Moses . After his return to Europe in 1994 the Greek Ministry of Culture offered him a two-year stay at the Cité Internationale des Arts Paris . For the following twelve years Dimitriadis was an active member of the Paris jazz and improvisational music scene. He has lived in Berlin since 2006.

Dimitriadis has appeared in solo programs and in collaboration with artists such as Audrey Chen, Tristan Honsinger , Conny and Matthias Bauer , Frank Gratkowski and Lori Freedman at festivals and concert series around the world. He also worked in duos with Achim Kaufmann , Ignaz Schick , Andrea Parkins , Axel Dörner , Tobias Delius and in various constellations with Michel Doneda , Ulrich Gumpert , Amir ElSaffar , Sirone , Mark Turner , Robin Hayward , Oğuz Büyükberber , Meinrad Kneer , Johannes Fink , Jan Roder , Silke Eberhard , Daniel Erdmann , Philippe Lemoine, Andrea Parkins, Nikolas Anadolis and the Berlin Improvisers Orchestra .

In his solo work, Dimitriadis uses drums, cymbals and microphones to compose soundscapes in real time, with an emphasis on timbre and long periods of time. He can also be heard on albums by Gary Wiggins / Christian Rannenberg , Yorgos Tsakalidis, Kostas Vomvolos , Stella Michailidou, Yorgos Kazantzis, Michalis Siganidis , Kostas Magginas, Minino Garay and Roberto de Brașov.
