Zoltán Hetényi ( Hungarian Hetényi Zoltán ; born February 18, 1988 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian ice hockey goalkeeper who has been under contract with the Knoxville Ice Bears from the Southern Professional Hockey League since 2017 . His brother Péter Hetényi is also a hockey player.

Career

Zoltán Hetényi began his career with the Hungarian series champion Alba Volán Székesfehérvár and soon established himself as a backup goalkeeper behind Krisztián Budai . His breakthrough came in the 2007/08 season , when he caused a sensation with sensational performances in the Austrian ice hockey league and ended the season as the second best goalkeeper in the league. In the playoffs of the Hungarian league that followed the EBEL, he confidently achieved a sensational catch rate of 94.36%.

In the 2008/09 season he acted as a backup of Szuper, who had changed to Alba Volán as the first goalkeeper, but could not repeat the excellent performance of the previous season. Therefore, after the move from Szuper to the Hannover Scorpions, the Finn Tommi Satosaari was signed as the first goalkeeper before Hetényi. In the 2010/11 season he was a total of 32 times for his team in the ÖEHL between the posts, but had to accept an average of 3.65 goals per game due to the defensive weakness of his team with a good catch rate of 91 percent.

In addition to playing in the Austrian league, Hetényi regularly plays for Alba Volán in the Hungarian ice hockey league and won the national championship title seven times in a row with his team in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 . For the 2011/12 season he moved to Jokerit Helsinki from the Finnish SM-liiga . For the team, he played two games in the European Trophy in preparation for the season . For the further course of the season he was also eligible to play as a loan player for Kiekko-Vantaa from the second-rate Mestis . At the end of the season he finished third in the Finnish championship with Jokerit, but did not receive a new contract. He spent the 2012/13 season with the Cincinnati Cyclones and Orlando Solar Bears from the ECHL before he was signed by Tappara Tampere in May 2013 . For Tappara he first played in the European Trophy 2013 before he was loaned to Lempäälän Kisa from Mestis. In November 2013 he returned to his home club in Székesfehérvár and achieved the best catch quota in the Austrian ice hockey league in the 2013/14 season . After he was not used due to injury in the 2014/15 season, he was back between the posts of his club in 28 games in the ÖEHL a year later. In 2017 he moved to the United States for the Knoxville Ice Bears from the Southern Professional Hockey League , but also played three times for the Greenville Swamp Rabbits from the ECHL.

International

For Hungary, Hetényi took part in the junior division at the U18 World Junior Championship Division II 2004 and the U18 Junior World Championship Division I 2006 as well as the U20 Junior World Championship Division II 2005 and the U20 Junior World Championship Division I 2006 and 2008 participated.

In the senior division, he was part of the Hungarian squad at the World Championships in Division I in 2008 , 2010 , 2011 and 2014 . At the 2008 tournament in Japan, he replaced Budai as a backup for the Hungarian national team goalie Levente Szuper and scored a shutout against Croatia in his only game . He also ran for Hungary at the World Championships in the top division in 2009 , when Hungary participated in a world championship at the highest level for the first time in 70 years, and in a total of four games in 2016 . He also represented his colors in the qualifying tournaments for the Winter Olympics in Vancouver 2010 and Pyeongchang 2018 .
