Association of Polish Composers

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Association of Polish Composers (in Polish: Związek Kompozytorów Polskich , ZKP) is a society of Polish composers and musicologists.

The association was founded in Krakow on August 29 or September 1, 1945 by the All-Polish Congress of Composers, as a continuation of the Association of Polish Composers founded in 1925. Warsaw was chosen as the seat of the association . In addition to the composers, musicologists should also belong to the association since 1948, and they formed a separate section.

The state expected the organization to promote the introduction of Socialist Realism . Only after the Polish October , a loosening of the political climate in the People's Republic of Poland , did the ideologization of Polish culture end. The "Warsaw Autumn" festival for contemporary music has been held in Poland every year since 1956 .

Since 1961, similar festivals of new music based on the Warsaw model have been held in other cities in Poland: in 1961 in Poznan , in 1962 in Krakow and in Wroclaw .

The association also organizes concerts, musicological symposia , competitions for new compositions.

The competition for young composers (since 1981 Tadeusz Baird competition ) has been held every year since 1948 . The group of young composers was founded in 1949. The association consists of eight branches in Wroclaw , Bydgoszcz , Gdansk , Katowice , Krakow, Lublin , Łódź , Poznan and Warsaw.

Since 2001, the association operates the Polish Center for Music Information ( Polish Polskie Centrum Informacji Muzycznej ), a member of The International Association of Music Information Centers in Brussels .
