X is the tenth studio album by Australian pop singer Kylie Minogue. It is Minogue's first commercial album release since she was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2005. The album has sold over 875,000 copies worldwide so far[citation needed]. X was nominated for the Best International Album at the 2008 Brit Awards ceremony.

Promotion

To promote the release of the album, Minogue performed on an exclusive show on ITV1 called The Kylie Show, featuring six songs from the new album, and four of her previous hits. It aired on 10 November, 2007. Minogue also joined Jo Whiley on Radio 1 for a special show promoting the new album called Kylie and Whiley during which they recreated a scene from Neighbours.

On November 28, 2007, Minogue announced she would promote X with a European tour, to be called KYLIEX2008.

To promote the lead single and the album in the U.S., Minogue appeared on several shows. On March 31, she gave an interview on the Today Show with Matt Lauer. Minogue also performed "All I See" and "Can't Get You out of My Head" live on the results show April 1,2008 of the American program Dancing with the Stars.[2] She also performed on the The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. She also appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on April 7, 2008 and at the American Idol (Season 7) special Idol Gives Back[3] along with some of the biggest names in music, such as Mariah Carey, Gloria Estefan, Celine Dion, Bono, Annie Lennox, Maroon 5 and many more on April 8, 2008. This was Minogue's final appearance in the United States before heading back to England to prepare for the tour, which begins May 6, 2008 in Paris. Capitol Records has also been heavily pushing tracks from the album on various television networks with songs appearing in Gossip Girl on the CW and in commercials and spots on ABC.

  • "Excuse My French" and "When The Cat's Away": these songs leaked in March 2007.[13] Minogue's management later denied that she had recorded the songs.[14]
  • "Lose Control", "Fall For You [Version #2]",[15] and demos of "Stars", "In My Arms" and "Sensitized" leaked in May 2007 when a 3-CDR demo disc leaked from Parlophone.[16]
  • "I'm Ready": written by Boy George leaked in August 2007.[citation needed]

Unreleased

Among unreleased tracks written for this album are: "Boys Boys Boys" (Mark Ronson/Dennis, written but not recorded), "Deepest Blue" (Minogue/Kurstin/Poole), as well as tracks written with Siobhan Fahey, Goldfrapp, Scissor Sisters, Daft Punk and Alan Braxe.

Scottish musician Mylo was also recruited to record several of the tracks for the album with Minogue. After recording tracks in the studio, he was told "they were being sent off to be mixed and would be on the final record". He was shocked when the final product was released without any of his tracks included. "To be honest, I think the album is a complete mess, except for the track she blatantly stole, (from Kish Mauve) "2 Hearts"" he told BBC Radio 1. "I plan to keep up my public beef with Kylie for as long as possible". [19]

In the interview Xposed, included on the DVD special edition of X, Kylie confirmed two further unreleased songs that didn't make it on the album: "Taprobane" and "Ruffle My Feathers". Both are collaborations with Biffco, and were recorded during the early album sessions.

Track titles that appeared on the leaked 3CDR set that have so far neither leaked online or been released in finished form are: "Down Down", "Sexual Gold", "When The Song Comes On", "Guess", "Ooh", "My Love Is Real", "Classic Transit", "I Can't Help That", "Acid Man", "Osmondosis", "Simple Boy", "One To One", "Give Up To Love", "Never Be Lonely", "To The 9's", "Can't Get Enough", "What's It Gonna Take", "Hush Hush", "Thing Called Love", "Everlasting Love", "Hold On", "You Make Me Feel", "So Safe", "Extraordinary Day", "Something 2 Believe In", "Come Down", "You're Hot", "Tell You Why", "The Reason", "Into The Light", "Tell It Like It Is", "Tell Me That It's Over", "We Are" and "Drop The Pressure".

A few tracks submitted to Minogue for inclusion but left unused were eventually kept by the original artists themselves such as Sneaky Sound System's "I Want Everything" while Jake Shears confirmed a track recorded for X called "Singing In My Sleep". He later indicated that Scissor Sisters may record the song for their next album.
