Alva is a settlement situated in Gotland Municipality, Gotland County, on the island of Gotland, Sweden. Formerly a socken, on 1 January 2016, it was reconstituted into the administrative area Alva District.[3]
Geography
Alva is the name of the small village surrounding the the medieval Alva Church,[4] sometimes referred to as Alva kyrkby. The name is also used for the larger surrounding area, Alva socken. It is situated in the south part of Gotland.[5]
One of the asteroids in the Asteroid belt, 2353 Alva, is named after this place.[6]
