Controversy
Infosys became entangled in a scandal in 2002 when Ms. Reka Maximovitch, a former Infosys employee, filed a sexual harassment case against Infosys and Phaneesh Murthy, the head of the sales and marketing, and communication and product services division of Infosys (and a director on the board). The events that took place during October 1999 and December 2000 became public knowledge in India only when he resigned from his post in June 2002. The case was settled out of court in May 2003 for US$3 million.[5]
Phaneesh Murthy, currently the CEO at iGATE Global, settled a second sexual harassment case filed by another former Infosys employee, Ms. Jennifer Griffith, out of court in 2004. Unlike the Maximovitch case, Infosys did not contribute any money to this settlement and was not a signatory to this settlement agreement.[5]
