This List of Australian Football League grounds lists every ground upon which a senior VFL/AFL game has been played. Australian rules football is played on a grassed oval, according to the specifications in the Laws of Australian football, with average a length of between 135 and 185 metres and a width of between 110 and 155 metres. Most Australian rules football grounds are also used for other sports, such as cricket, rugby, soccer or the the Olympic games, and for events such as rock concerts or exhibitions.

Current grounds
The following table shows a list of all of the current grounds that are used in the Australian Football League, in order of capacity. The table also includes grounds where teams have commercial deals in place to transfer home games to these grounds each season but are not actual tenants of those grounds.

The Melbourne Cricket Ground is now the only ground in Australia that has been host to AFL matches since the inauguration of the league back in 1897.

The newest stadium on the list is TIO Stadium. This ground is host to a few Western Bulldogs matches each year as a result of a commercial deal that have allowed them to have home games at TIO Stadium since 2004.

Former major grounds
The table below features a list of former grounds that were used in the VFL/AFL. Some of them were teams home bases for numerous years until the closure of them by the AFL. Throughout World War 2 some of the grounds were used since their main ground was being used for servicemen.

Many of the grounds now serve as a training ovals for an AFL team, as it is highly unlikely any of them will be used in regular competition again.

Waverley Park, located in Mulgrave, Victoria is by far the highest capacity stadium in the list below, able to hold as many as 93,000 people. The stadium was closed due to a lack of public transport infustructure (as the stadium was situated outside Melbourne), lack of parking, inadequite public and corporate facilities and since the ground was unusually larger than normal AFL grounds, spectators felt they were too far away from the game.

Princes Park (now known as Visy Park) was the most recent stadium to close, which occurred in 2005. With the construction of the new stadium, Telstra Dome, the AFL decided to cease all AFL matches from being played there as the grounds capacity wasn't adequite for the modern game.

Former minor grounds
Minor grounds have been used in the VFL/AFL, but only sparringly. One of the main reasons that minor grounds have been used in VFL/AFL was to spread the game to other parts of the country. A great example of this is Round 8, 1952, where all games for that round were played at minor grounds throughout Australia. Other minor grounds have been used as an "experimentation", where the club tests out the ground for future basing there, as did North Melbourne in 1965 and Footscray in 1942.

Minor grounds were also used throughout World War 2, as some of the larger grounds throughout Victoria were being occupied by servicemen.

International exhibition / pre-season venues
The following is a list of all of the international venues where a game of AFL has been played (in order of year last used), whether it be for a pre-season competition match or for an exhibition match.

The first international AFL exhibition match was in London, England in 1916. A team of Australian soldiers stationed in England at the time foemed a team to play against a "training group". The game brought a crowd of 3,000 people that even included the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII and King Manuel II of Portugal.

The more recent AFL international matches have been part of the pre-season competition format and been highly successful. Countries that have hosted such matches include: United Arab Emirates, South Africa and United Kingdom. There are also plans to expand the game futher into countries such as India and Japan.

The Melbourne Cricket Ground, or more commonly known as the MCG, is the largest AFL stadium in Australia with a maximum capacity of over 100,000.

This List of Australian Football League grounds lists every ground upon which a senior VFL/AFL game has been played. Australian rules football is played on a grassed oval, according to the specifications in the Laws of Australian football, with average a length of between 135 and 185 metres and a width of between 110 and 155 metres.[1] Most Australian rules football grounds are also used for other sports, such as cricket, rugby, soccer or the the Olympic games, and for events such as rock concerts or exhibitions.

Template:VFL stadiums map

The game brought a crowd of 3,000 people that even included the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII and King Manuel II of Portugal.
