(471143) Dziewanna (former designation 2010 EK 139 ) is a large trans-Neptunian object in the Kuiper belt , which is classified as a resonant Kuiper belt object (2: 7 resonance) in terms of orbit dynamics . Because of its size, the asteroid is a dwarf planet candidate .
discovery
Dziewanna was discovered on March 13, 2010 by a team of astronomers consisting of Andrzej Udalski , Scott Sheppard , Marcin Kubiak and Chad Trujillo at the 1.3 m Las Campanas telescope ( Chile ). The discovery was made within the framework of the OGLE-IV program at Warsaw University . The discovery was announced on April 8, 2010, the planetoid was given the provisional designation 2010 EK 139 and later the minor planet number 471143 by the IAU .
The asteroid was named on September 25, 2018 after Devana ( Polish : Dziewanna ), a Slavic goddess of wild nature, forests and hunting.
After his discovery, Dziewanna looked at photos from March 15, 2002, which were taken as part of the Near Earth Asteroid Tracking project with the 1.2 m Oschin Schmidt telescope at the Palomar Observatory ( California ), and extend their observation period by eight years in order to calculate their orbit more precisely. Since then, Dziewanna has been observed using the Herschel Space Telescope (2010) and Earth - based telescopes such as the Keck Observatory . In April 2017, a total of 169 observations were made over a period of 13 years. The last observation so far was carried out in May 2015 as part of the Pan-STARRS project at the Haleakalā Observatory ( Maui ). (As of February 24, 2019)
properties
Orbit
Dziewanna orbits the Sun in 592 years and about 8 months in a highly elliptical orbit between 32.53 AU and 108.59 AU from its center. The orbit eccentricity is 0.539, the orbit is inclined 29.5 ° with respect to the ecliptic . The planetoid is currently 36.06 AU from the Sun. He will next pass perihelion in 2038, so the last perihelion should have occurred in 1446.
Marc Buie ( DES ) classifies the asteroid as RKBO ( 2: 7 resonance with Neptune ) based on a 10-million-year orbit simulation. This is rather a rarity; the only other asteroid with this resonance that has so far received a number from the IAU is 2001 KV 76 . The Minor Planet Center , on the other hand, lists it as an SDO / Centaur and generally as a "Distant Object" .
Size and rotation
A diameter of 470 km is currently assumed, which means that the asteroid has a size comparable to 1999 DE 9 . This value is based on an assumed reflectivity of 25% and an absolute brightness of 3.9 m . Based on a diameter of 470 km, this results in a total area of around 694,000 km 2 . The diameter should in any case be between 400 and 700 km. The apparent magnitude of Dziewanna is 19.68 m .
Since it can be assumed that Dziewanna is in hydrostatic equilibrium due to its size and must therefore be largely round, it should meet the criteria for classification as a dwarf planet . Mike Brown believes that Dziewanna may be a dwarf planet.
Dziewanna rotates around its axis once every 7 hours and 4 minutes. It follows from this that in a Dziewanna year it performs 734,869 self- rotations (“days”).
