99 Balloons is a published on 27 February 1984 Compilation - album of the German pop band Nena . It is also known as the International Album and contains a selection of songs from the first two Nena albums. The first five songs are English language versions.

History of origin

After the single 99 Luftballons entered the charts in many countries and sold around 600,000 copies in the United States, the demand for English-language songs by the band Nena increased. While in Germany the second album ? (Question mark) appeared, the band recorded the album 99 Luftballons . For the A-side, English versions of several songs from the self-titled debut album and by ? (Question mark) added: 99 Red Ballons ( 99 balloons ) ,? (Question mark) ( ? (Question mark) ), hangin 'on You ( I'll hang on you ) Just a Dream ( only dreamed ) and Let Me Be Your Pirate ( Let me be your pirate ). German-language songs from the two previous albums were used for the B-side . The album was recorded in Berlin and produced by Manfred Praeker and Reinhold Heil .

Publications

In addition to the popular titles 99 Luftballons and International Album , it was also released under the titles First America (Japan), 99 Red Balloons (Spain and South Africa) and as Nena (United Kingdom, parts of Europe). The Japanese and Dutch versions contain a “club mix” of 99 red balloons . Depending on the country, the album was marketed by Epic Records or CBS .

The album reached number 23 in the album charts in Germany. 99 Red Ballons stayed in the British music charts for a total of 12 weeks , three of which were number 1.

Overall, however, the album fell short of expectations internationally. On the one hand, the original language version had already made it into various charts, and in some cases the international fans lost interest in the band Nena.
