Oblys ( regions ):

The A1 is a 452 kilometer long main road in Kazakhstan . It runs in a north-south direction and thus connects the centrally located capital Nur-Sultan with the cities of Kokshetau and finally Petropawl in the north of the country. Between Nur-Sultan and Kökschetau, the A1 has been expanded as a motorway for around 280 kilometers .

It is Kazakhstan's first A-numbered street, and therefore the first not based on the old Soviet numbering.

Street description

The A1 starts at a motorway junction on the north side of the motorway ring of the Kazakh capital Nur-Sultan and then leads northwards with two, sometimes three, three lanes in each direction. It crosses flat to slightly hilly area that is less dry than the south of the country. However, only a few sections are forested, the majority consists of agriculturally used steppes . With the exception of the city of Shchuchinsk, there are mainly villages on the sides of the A1 .

Then the A1 leads through Kökschetau . From there on, it continues in a single lane northwards through flat, moderate steppes, which are increasingly mixed with forest. There are only a few smaller towns on the A1 up to the city of Petropawl . The A1 runs through Petropawl and ends in the north of the city on the M51 .

history

The A1 had the number A343 during the Soviet Union. Even after independence in 1991, the street numbering initially remained. Only in the late 2000s was the A343 renumbered the A1.

Since the expansion of the Nur-Sultan - Kökschetau section to a regular motorway in 2009, the A1 has had a modern appearance in contrast to many other main routes in Central Asia with junctions , motorway triangles and intersections .

toll

The highway from Astana to Shchuchinsk has been a toll road since 2013 .
