The A Grupa 1948/49 was the 25th season of the highest Bulgarian football league . Levski Sofia became the master .

mode

From this season, the champions were again determined in the league system . Ten teams played against each other twice on a total of 18 match days, divided into a first half and a second half.

The bottom of the table was relegated directly to the B Grupa . The teams in places 7, 8 and 9 played in a relegation round against the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of the regional division.
