Radio Aachen was the local radio for the city of Aachen . It went on air on February 1, 1992 and received its license from the State Media Authority in North Rhine-Westphalia . The reason for the discontinuation of the station is the bankruptcy of the operating company Radio Aachen GmbH & Co. KG. Insolvency proceedings were opened against the company's assets on July 1, 2009 at the Aachen District Court due to insolvency (file number: 92 IN 73/09).

Radio Aachen broadcast eight hours of local programs a day until February 26, 2010. The morning program Guten Morgen Aachen ran from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. on weekdays. In the afternoon, Radio Aachen Drivetime was broadcast between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., the hour from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. formed a summary of the day's topics under the title Drivetime plus - the day in Aachen . On weekdays from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. inclusive, the editorial team produced local news every hour. On Saturday the broadcast was between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. ( Weekend ) and between 1 and 6 p.m. ( The official Aachen Charts ). On Sundays between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. topics "from Aachen for Aachen" were discussed ( Öcher Treff ). In a broadcast on Radio Aachen on September 25, 2006, the station dealt with the drug problem at Kaiserplatz and thus made the residents heard. The remainder of the program and the news on the hour were taken over by the broadcast program provider Radio NRW.

Radio Aachen sponsored institutions and associations in the city of Aachen. With 107.8 antenna AC and 100'5 Das Hitradio there are two more local radios in the Aachen area. 107.8 Antenne AC was only the local radio of the former district of Aachen until October 3rd, 2010; 100'5 the Hitradio is a German-speaking broadcaster from Belgium. There is also the university radio Aachen on 99.1 MHz.

Radio Aachen could be heard in Aachen on the FM frequency 100.1 MHz (with 1 kW) from Mulleklenkes . The station could also be received in the Aachen cable network from Unitymedia on 87.85 MHz. The former RDS code was "Aachen".

The successor program Antenne AC is now broadcast on the former Radio Aachen frequency UKW 100.1.
