Adolf Ferdinand Karl Wilhelm Freiherr von Zedlitz and Leipe (born March 15, 1826 in Zülzendorf , † May 13, 1906 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

Adolf was a son of Baron August von Zedlitz and Leipe (1789–1873) and his wife Jenny, née Countess von Roedern (1798–1879). His father was lord of Zülzendorf, Teichenau and Prisning and was a knight of the Order of St. John . His brother Gustav (1824–1914) was a member of the Prussian mansion , Hans (1833–1889) District Administrator of the Schweidnitz district .

Military career

Zedlitz visited the cadet houses in Wahlstatt and Berlin . Subsequently, on July 4, 1844, he was transferred to the 1st Guard Uhlan Regiment of the Prussian Army as a portepeefähnrich . In mid-November 1844, he was awarded the character as a second lieutenant and 17 August 1845 patent for this rank . From November 1849 to the end of September 1855 Zedlitz was assigned to the veterinary school and advanced to the rank of Rittmeister by mid-September 1858 . On the occasion of the Sardinian War , he was commanded as a squadron leader to the 1st Guards Landwehr Cavalry Regiment for the duration of the mobilization . In the same capacity, from May 22, 1860, a command to the combined Guards Dragoon Regiment followed, from which the 2nd Guards Dragoon Regiment was formed at the beginning of July 1860 . With the budgeting, Zedlitz was appointed head of the 3rd Squadron, which he led in 1866 during the war against Austria in the battles near Münchengrätz and Königgrätz .

After the peace agreement , Zedlitz rose to major and was reassigned to the 1st Guard Uhlan Regiment in mid-October 1867 as a regular staff officer . In this capacity he went to war against France in 1870 . After the previous regiment commander Reinhold Finck von Finckenstein (1824-1870) had fallen, Zedlitz was commissioned on August 23, 1870 to lead the 2nd Guard Dragoon Regiment and appointed him on August 27, 1870 for the duration of the mobile relationship to the commander of the regiment. With his dragoons he took part in the battles at Beaumont and Sedan and the siege of Paris . Promoted to lieutenant colonel on the day of the imperial proclamation and awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class in March , Zedlitz was confirmed as regimental commander on April 4, 1871. In this position he was promoted to colonel in March 1873 . On September 15, 1877, Zedlitz was transferred to Kassel under position à la suite of his regiment and appointed commander of the 22nd Cavalry Brigade . In this position he received the Red Eagle Order II. Class with Oak Leaves at the end of September 1878 , before Zedlitz took over command of the 3rd Guards Cavalry Brigade in Berlin on May 13, 1879 and was promoted to major general a month later . In September 1880, Kaiser Wilhelm I awarded him the star for the Order of the Crown, 2nd class. In approval of his leave request Zedlitz was awarded the character as Lieutenant General on 16 August 1883 the statutory pension for disposition made.

After his farewell, Kaiser Wilhelm II paid tribute to him on September 14, 1900 by awarding him the uniform of the 2nd Guard Dragoons Regiment.

family

Zedlitz married Helene Nothomb (1837-1919) on February 3, 1858 in Berlin. She was the daughter of the Belgian Minister of State and envoy extraordinary at the Prussian court Jean-Baptiste Nothomb (1805-1881). The following children were born from the marriage:

  • Fritz (1861–1968), Prussian major general
  • Paul (* 1864), Prussian government councilor
  • Franz (1876–1944), Prussian baron and Olympic participant in 1912
