Project 1232 , with the code name "Dscheiran" ( Russian Джейран ; for Gazelle , NATO designation: Aist class ) was a class of large air cushion - landing craft that the Cold War for the Soviet Navy was developed.
In the 1970s, the ships were by far the largest military hovercraft. The Russian classification is "small landing craft on air cushions" ( Russian Малый десантный корабль на воздушной подушке , or MDK for short).
development
The class has been developed since 1970 by the "Almaz" ( Russian Центральное Морское Конструкторское Бюро (ЦМКБ) "Алмаз" ) design office in Leningrad . Until then, the classic landing craft of this size could only reach approx. 17% of the coasts, while Project 1232 could be landed on approx. 80% of all beaches. These ships were mainly used in the Baltic Fleet , the Black Sea Fleet and the Caspian Flotilla .
Project 1232 was the first version of the class, but it only carried a 30 mm AK-230 tower on the roof of the steering position, so that after only one boat the improved version Project 1232.1 was launched, which had a modified bridge shape and was included two AK-230 towers on the roof of the vehicle deck.
Some units are also said to have been equipped with two PK-16 flare launchers and two quad launchers for 9K32MF Strela-2MF anti -aircraft missiles (SA-N-5 Grail).
capacity
The loading capacity is 80 tons. For example, you can load:
- 4 light tanks (e.g. PT-76 ) and 50 infantrymen
- 2 main battle tanks T-72 and 200 infantrymen
- 3 armored personnel carriers and 100 infantrymen
