Project 304 ( NATO designation: Amur class ) is a class of workshop ships of the Soviet and later the Russian navy . 28 ships of the class were built in Poland from 1968.

description

planning

The ship class was developed as an independent repair base, which should be able to carry out repair work on ships of the Soviet Navy even in the event of destruction or other failures of land-based facilities. The first project of its kind after World War II was Project 725 and 725A from the 1960s. With the Poland allied in the Warsaw Pact , the Soviet Union developed a number of auxiliary ships from Projects 300 , 301 and 303, and finally Project 304. All of these ships were built in Szczecin .

construction

Donbas (Ukrainian ship of project 304, 2012)

The ships can carry up to 280 tons of spare parts. Three cranes are set up on the weather deck , two amidships and one at the stern.

The machinery consists of a Zgoda- Sulzer - marine diesel engine of the type 8TAD-48 which drives a propeller. The top speed is 14.3  knots . The range at eight knots is given as 13,000  nautical miles .

Various combinations of generators were installed to operate the on-board electronics. The first 13 ships each carry four 400 kW 8VAN22 diesel generators and a further 300 kW generator 5VAN22 is available for this purpose. The next construction lot, consisting of five ships, was equipped with four 800 kW generators and one 300 kW generator, the last construction lot with ten ships, which were built until 1987, carries three 950 kW generators and one 120 kW generator. kW generator.

The crews of the ships can work up to 247,000 hours of repair time per year.

Armament

The ships are usually not armed, but at least one ship has two 25mm L / 70 2M-3 anti-aircraft guns installed.

Project 304 units

28 ships of Project 304 were built in Szczecin for the Soviet Union between 1968 and 1987 . One was handed over to Ukraine after the collapse of the Soviet Union , the rest went to the Russian Federation. Nine were retired by the Federation by 2012, one of the ships was sunk in 2014 as a target for exercise.

The Ukrainian Project 304 ship Donbas was briefly occupied by Russian troops during the 2014 Crimean crisis but was later returned.
