Project 1206 , code-named "Squid" (Russian "Кальмар"; NATO designation: Lebed class ) was a class of air cushion - landing craft of the Soviet Navy , which in the Cold War was designed to be used by larger landing ships .
The vehicle was developed on the basis of the weaker motorized and lighter Project 1205 , with which only troops but no vehicles could be landed. Project 1206 was to be deployed from the dropships of Project 1174 and was given a spacious transport deck on which up to two armored personnel carriers , 112 soldiers or a battle tank could be carried.
construction
Project 1206 had a continuous transport deck that stretched almost the entire length of the ship, along the central longitudinal axis, and could be entered or left with vehicles via a wide bow ramp. At the stern there were two access hatches for people. The lifting propellers were mounted in the center of the vehicle on the port and starboard sides; two propellers with downstream rudders were installed aft on the roof of the superstructure for forward movement.
On the top of the superstructure, on the port side in front, was a small steering position with viewing windows, opposite, on the starboard side, was the only weapon system of the vehicles - a turret with a twin 12.7 mm NSW machine gun.
units
18 vehicles and two test vehicles were built by the Black Sea shipyard near Feodosia between 1972 and 1985. The vehicles were given numbers rather than names and the prefix “D” (Russian “д”). By 1994, all units were retired.
