Project 266M , code name Aquamarine ( Russian Аквамарин ; NATO designation: Natya class ), is a class of ocean-going mine clearance vessels of the Soviet and later the Russian Navy . The vehicles were planned in the Soviet Union from 1965 as a replacement for Project 266 and were mainly used in the Cold War .
description
Project 266M was a fundamentally revised version of Project 266. The hull was enlarged by 50%, new technology was built in to search for underwater contacts, the noise emissions of the drive were reduced by enclosing a low-cavitation propeller in a noise-reducing housing, the range was increased and the range was subdivided Inside the hull the engine room with watertight compartments to improve survivability.
The arrangement of the armament remained largely the same as in the previous class: one 30 mm L / 63 AK-230 or 30 mm L / 63 AK-306 anti-aircraft tower were placed in front of the structure, and another behind the structure. In addition to the funnel, a 25 mm L / 70 2M-3 twin gun was mounted on the starboard and port sides . These weapons were not at the same height, but the starboard gun was positioned a little further back, so that there was still space for a dinghy on the starboard side . Two 250 mm RBU-1200 depth charge launchers were mounted on the forecastle, on either side of the forward anti-aircraft gun.
Each ship was constructed with a retractable sonar dome below the bridge, each containing an MG-89 "Serna" and an MH-35E sonar for searching for ground mines and anchor mines .
A flat work platform has been placed on the aft ship, from which a clearing gear with kite kites can be deployed. The equipment also includes anti-mine drones of the type "Majewka-E" equipped with cameras .
Whereabouts
Project 266M
31 ships of the project 266M were built for the Soviet Navy between 1970 and 1978, 26 of them at the Nevsky Shipyard in Saint Petersburg , the remaining five in Khabarovsk . Most of these ships were named after positions in the Navy. For example Turbinist , Torpedo , gunner , Signalschik , machinist , Motorist and others. 23 ships had been decommissioned by 2005, two were handed over to Ukraine and one to Vietnam .
266ME project
From the export version Project 266ME a total of 26 ships were built by 1981, which lacked the fire control radar on the mast and the communication equipment of the Soviet ships. In addition, there were two modern test vehicles until 2001, in which, among other things, a bow thruster was installed. twelve ships were delivered to India , eight to Libya , three to Vietnam and one each to South Yemen , Syria and Ethiopia .
