Alfred Klose (political scientist)

Alfred Klose (born September 23, 1928 in Ybbs an der Donau , Lower Austria ; † February 27, 2015 in Vienna ) was an Austrian political and social scientist and author of important works on questions of Christian social teaching and social ethics .

Life

After attending the humanistic grammar school in St. Pölten and Vienna 6 and graduating from high school in 1947, he began to study law , political science and history . Since 1948 he was a member of the Catholic student union KaV Norica Vienna in the ÖCV . In 1951 he was promoted to Dr. jur. , 1955 Dr. rer. pole. and in 1958 Dr. phil. PhD . After completing his legal practice , he joined the Austrian Chamber of Commerce , where he worked in various political positions at the Vienna Chamber and the Federal Chamber of Commerce , from 1964 as head of the economic policy department. At the same time, he was a member of the advisory board for economic and social issues , as well as various ministerial advisory boards and as an assessor in the cartel court .

From 1967 he worked as a lecturer at the Universities of Innsbruck and Vienna ; In 1976 he qualified as a professor for social politics and political theory at the Faculty of Basic and Integrative Science in Vienna. In 1980 he was awarded the title of Associate University Professor .

He was a member of the board of the International Humanum Foundation in Friborg , the Jung Stilling Society in Siegen and the Institute for Social Policy and Social Reform, later named Dr. Karl Kummer Institute in Vienna, the Johannes Messner Society and on the advisory board of the Görres Society for the Care of Science in Cologne.

Alfred Klose was involved in numerous social projects in the Holy Land . In 1980 he was appointed Knight of the Knightly Order of the Holy Sepulcher by Cardinal Grand Master Maximilien Cardinal de Fürstenberg and invested in the order on September 27, 1980 by Jakob Weinbacher , Grand Prior of the Austrian Lieutenancy . He was most recently an officer of the order.

On August 14, 1957, he married Annemarie Klose, b. Messner. Their four children were born in 1958, 1960, 1961 and 1966.

Act

His thinking was primarily shaped by Johannes Messner , an uncle of his wife Annemarie. He also received important impulses from Anton Burghardt , Erich Bodzenta , Heinrich Schneider and Karl Lugmayer . He works together with Wolfgang Mantl , Valentin Zsifkovits , Rudolf Weiler , Wolfgang Schmitz , Anton Rauscher , Herbert Schambeck , Wolfgang Pesendorfer , Gerhard Merk , Erwin Bader , Arno Anzenbacher and Hans-Georg Heinrich . His students include Johannes Michael Schnarrer , Herbert Pribyl and Hans-Peter Schachner .

Klose published numerous essays, scientific papers and books. Klose's best-known works include "The Catholic Social Doctrine. Your Claim - Your Topicality" (1979), "Conscience in Politics. Ethics for the Decision-Making Crisis" (1982), "Power Structures in Austria" (1987), "Entrepreneurial Ethics. In demand today ? " (1988), "Christian Social Teaching. An Ecumenical Challenge" (1993), "Minorities and Human Dignity" (2000) and "Cultural Ethics as a Challenge" (2005).
