Wolfgang Mantl

Wolfgang Mantl (born March 18, 1939 in Vienna ) is an Austrian political scientist and lawyer. He is emeritus at the law faculty of the Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz , a real member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and editor of the studies for politics and administration (together with Christian Brünner and Manfried Welan ).

Life

Wolfgang Mantl studied law and received his doctorate in 1961 at the University of Vienna , moved to a position at the Vienna University of Economics in 1965 at the Karl-Franzens University in Graz , where he in 1974 General Administrative , Political Science and Austrian Constitutional Law habilitated . Until 2007 he was head of the Department of Political Science and General Political Science and Constitutional Studies at the Faculty of Law at the University of Graz and retired in 2007. Wolfgang Mantl is primarily dedicated to democratic theory , administrative politics, political party theory and the development analysis of political ideas and movements .

Mantl was visiting professor at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands , the University of Friborg in Switzerland , the National Ivan Franko University in Lviv in the Ukraine, and from 2003 to 2008 held a lectureship in political science at the FH Joanneum in Graz. Mantl is married and has four children. He is a member of the Catholic student associations KaV Norica Vienna (since 1957), KÖHV Carolina Graz (since 1976), KÖStV Traungau Graz (since 1998) and KÖStV Babenberg Graz (since 2000) in the ÖCV

Public functions

Mantl worked on the reform of the Styrian state constitution from 1979 to 1990 , has been publishing studies for politics and administration since 1985 together with Christian Brünner and Manfred Welan and was co-editor of the Kleine Zeitung in 1985 . In 1987 and 1988 he was the scientific director of the socio-political forum of the ÖVP , which was convened by Alois Mock , and is considered to be the pioneer of this forum .

From 1992 to 2001 he was chairman of the association “Josef Krainer - Styrian Memorial Work” in Graz, since 1993 he has been a corresponding and since 1999 actual member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences . From 1993 to 1997 Mantl was a member of the Austrian UNESCO Commission and the Austrian Council for Science and Research in Vienna and from 1998 to 2004 a member of the Board of Trustees of the European Forum Alpbach . He is also a reviewer for the Fund for the Promotion of Scientific Research (FWF), the Jubilee Fund of the Austrian National Bank , the Austrian Research Foundation (ÖFG) and the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna.
