history

In principle, older documentary mentions have not been established. A few houses, mostly built in quarry stone , are scattered around the confluence of the Alpebach (also called "the Olpe") in the Wiehl at the junction of three country roads (Wiehltal L 336, Alpetal L 341, Bomiger Straße L 305). For a long time an inn has been handed down as a meeting place and resting place for the carters.

The origin and earlier importance of the place were closely connected to the old ore mining in the vicinity. Subsequently, until the last century, it was also shaped by the surrounding Grauwacke - quarries such as Oberste Sole, Wilhelmsberg, Jürgesbruch, Eichhardt , some with narrow-gauge railways leading to the Alperbrück junction. With the construction of the Wiehl Valley Railway at the beginning of the 20th century through the train station and loading facilities on the "Steinbreche" (under monument protection), the cheap transport routes gained in importance. However, it dwindled with the decline of the domestic greywacke industry and the abandonment of rail freight transport.

Towards the end of the Second World War in 1945 , Alperbrück experienced attacks by individual fighter-bombers whose bombs detonated a parked mail and ammunition train. Furthermore, large quantities of captured war ammunition of all calibres were dumped into the Alperbrücker pond. The dangerous legacy was later recovered after extensive drainage down to the "lowest level" and blown up in the quarry hole near the nearby Hengstenberg in a week-long operation. The Grauwackebruch, which is up to 10 meters deep and filled with clear groundwater, is popular with anglers today, as well as for training purposes for the ORCA diving club from Gummersbach.
