The Alsterring-Gymnasium (proper spelling without a hyphen) is a state-approved and funded alternative school in Hamburg that is privately owned and run by the non-profit educational institute Alsterbildungsring e. V. was founded. Around 150 pupils are currently attending the single-course all-day high school (G8) in Hamburg-Barmbek-Nord .

construction

The school is a bound all-day school (lessons Monday to Friday mornings and afternoons) with a lunch break and a learning office, in which the students work independently on tasks to deepen the learning content. The daily routine is mostly organized in double hours. The Hamburg educational plans apply, compliance with which is monitored by the school inspectorate. The school is politically and denominationally neutral and, in accordance with the Basic Law, is based on democratic values. The language of instruction, with the exception of foreign language classes, is German. The staff is international (currently German, Turkish, Colombian). The student body is culturally heterogeneous; many students grow up in a multilingual and multicultural environment. The classes consist of a maximum of 22 students.

particularities

The Alsterring-Gymnasium emphasizes with its motto “Individual paths to the Abitur” that every student is different in character, family background, previous learning biography and therefore should make his way through school as individually as possible.

The pupils keep a personal “log book” as a means of planning, reflection and communication, in which parents can also follow their children's learning work from home.

The language support in German plays a central role because of the immigrant background of the students and has a special place not only in German lessons, but also in all other subjects.

Despite government funding, a monthly school fee of 200 euros is currently charged - the cost of lunch produced in-house (50 euros), the partial freedom of teaching materials and all support and promotion measures for individual students (especially in German, English and mathematics) as well as the Social care (20 euros), which goes beyond the timetable of the grammar school, is added. A social staggering of school fees is currently being discussed.

Written inquiries from members of the Hamburg Parliament

The Alsterring-Gymnasium was publicly referred to as "Hamburg's first Turkish school". On October 9, 2008, there was a small request from MP Ties Rabe in the Hamburg Parliament . The answer emphasized that the school did not have a specific target group. The German private school is open to children from all nations and cultures, but initially only students with Turkish roots went to the grammar school. Meanwhile, the student body is culturally more heterogeneous, although according to information from the Hamburg Senate on October 17, 2008, it would not constitute a violation of the special ban if only students with a Turkish background went to high school in the long term.

On November 5, 2015, when MEP Dora Heyenn asked about compliance with the quality standards, the Senate replied: “The current performance of the students at the Alsterring [-] Gymnasium and the equipment in the school gave the responsible school supervisory authority no reason to appeal to make use of § 7 Hamburg law on privately owned schools. "

The Alsterring-Gymnasium receives financial aid in accordance with § 22 Paragraph 1 Clause 1 of the Hamburg Law on Independent Schools. When asked by CDU MP Karin Prien on August 11, 2016, the Senate replied: "The audit of the annual financial statements [for the financial years 2012 to 2015] did not lead to any complaints with regard to the correctness and frugality of economic management and the appropriate use of financial aid."
