history

Entrance in Lokstedt

The Lycée Français de Hamburg emerged in 1987 from the merger of two schools, the "French School" and the "German-French School eV". The foundation was supported by Hamburg's former Mayor Henning Voscherau and the journalist Heiko Engelkes . By contract with the French authority for French schools abroad, the school operates according to the French model. The sponsor was the non-profit "Association of Parents and Friends of the Lycée Français de Hambourg eV". The school includes a three-year kindergarten , a primary school and a high school . As of 2019, 833 students from 30 countries attended the school.

On August 4, 2005, the Hamburg school authorities granted the Lycée Français state approval to establish a primary school and a grammar school. On the occasion of the 20th school anniversary, the new school building was officially inaugurated on October 6, 2007.

At the beginning of the 2020/21 school year, the secondary sector was transferred to the sponsorship of the Hamburg school authorities. Since then the school has been called the German-French Gymnasium (DFG). The new grammar school follows the bilingual pedagogical concept of the DFGs in Freiburg, Saarbrücken and Buc (France).

In 2023 the grammar school is planning to move to a new building on the “Campus Struenseestrasse” in Altona. The French primary school is to remain in Lokstedt under private sponsorship.
