The Kurt-Körber-Gymnasium is the only gymnasium in the Hamburg district of Billstedt . The grammar school was opened in 1968 as the Billstedt grammar school , moved into its own new building in 1973 and was named after Kurt Körber in 2007 .

history

The school was opened in April 1968 as the Billstedt grammar school , and the premises of the Archenholzstrasse elementary and secondary school were used until the school building was completed.

The construction work for the new building on Parchamentweg began in 1968, the design came from Gerd Pempelfort with Jost Schramm . The first phase of construction was completed in 1971. The new school building was occupied at the beginning of the 1973/74 school year. The second phase of construction was completed in 1977, followed by the upper level building in 1980. The school complex with the buildings of the first and second construction phase is a listed building . From 2013 to 2014 the three-field sports facility was completely refurbished and equipped with a new facade.

The Gymnasium Billstedt has been an all-day school since August 2005 . In 2007 the grammar school was renamed Kurt-Körber-Gymnasium after the Hamburg entrepreneur and patron Kurt A. Körber . In 2010 there were profile classes for music theater and research-based learning . In 2011, the grammar school became one of ten North German schools to become a maths research school of the Rechnen Foundation . The novel concept of the flipped classroom has been implemented in mathematics and computer science since 2011 and the school is therefore visited by teachers from other schools who want to find out more. In 2011, the Paducation project, scientifically supported by the media center of the Faculty of Education, Psychology and Movement Science at the University of Hamburg , was started in cooperation with the Media Education Department of the Hamburg State Institute for Teacher Education and School Development and the Institute for Information Management Bremen (ifib), in which 70 high school students participated iPads were fitted up to high school graduation in 2013. In 2013, with the support of the Körber Foundation , the Kurt-Körber-Gymnasium became Hamburg's first tablet school as part of the “Start into the Next Generation” school experiment . The high school also had digital boards in 2013 .

The school canteen has been offering halal meat since 2015 . Since then, the number of students eating in the school canteen has risen sharply. In 2017, over 80% of the students at the school had a migrant background . In the school year 2016/17, it was 81.6% in the school year, more than twice as high as the average at high schools in Hamburg, where 37.6% of the students had a migration background. In 2017, the immigration background of the students consisted of 35 countries of origin. In 2018, the weekly newspaper Die Zeit conducted an interview with a pupil from the Kurt-Körber-Gymnasium and a pupil from the Blankenese grammar school in order to illustrate the educational differences and financial differences between the Hamburg districts of Blankenese and Billstedt . The Kurt-Körber-Gymnasium has been a cooperation partner of the Ben-Gurion Foundation since 2019 and participates in the partnership program with Israeli schools.

Educational offers

The afternoon offers include film courses, computer courses, a jewelry workshop, babysitting course, chess , hip-hop and the musical group.

Furthermore, a concept is being worked on to present oneself more in the district and to become an event location for the district.
