In 1420 Hamburg and Lübeck achieved joint rule over the village. Since 1556 it has been known as the Vierlande with Curslack , Kirchwerder and Neuengamme . After the end of the "two-city" rule, Altengamme belonged to the Hamburg rural area ( Landherrschaft Bergedorf ) since 1868 . In 1938, the Greater Hamburg Act resulted in complete incorporation into Hamburg.
