Amphoe Ubol Ratana ( Thai : อำเภอ อุบลรัตน์ ) is a district ( amphoe - administrative district ) in the province of Khon Kaen . The province of Khon Kaen is located in the western part of the northeast region of Thailand , the so-called Isan .

The district is named after Princess Ubol Ratana , the eldest daughter of King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX).

Ubol Ratana is bordered clockwise from the north by Amphoe Khao Suan Kwang , Nam Phong , Mueang Khon Kaen , Ban Fang , Nong Ruea and Phu Wiang in Khon Kaen Province and Amphoe Non Sang in Nong Bua Lamphu Province .

In the west of the district is the Ubol Ratana Dam , which dams the Lam Nam Phong . It plays a major role for the population of the district by generating electricity, protecting against flooding, fishing on the reservoir and as a destination for leisure and recreation.

history

Ubolratana was initially set up on August 20, 1974 as a “branch circle” ( King Amphoe ) by separating the three tambon Khok Sung, Na Kham and Ban Dong from the Nam Phong district . On March 25, 1979, Ubolratana was promoted to an Amphoe.

Attractions

• Phu Kao National Park - Phu Phan Kham ( อุทยานแห่งชาติ ภู เก้า - ภู พาน คำ ) - a total of 323 km², the park is only partly in the Ubol Ratana district. It continues north into Nongbua Lamphu Province . Much of the park is made up of dipterocarp trees , the leaves of which change color in early November.

Local administration

There are three municipalities with "small town" status ( Thesaban Tambon ) in the district:

• Khok Sung (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล โคก สูง ), consisting of the entire tambon Khok Sung.
• Na Kham (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล นา คำ ), consisting of the entire Tambon Na Kham.
• Khuean Ubolratana (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล เขื่อน อุบลรัตน์ ), consisting of parts of the Tambon Khuean Ubolratana.

There are also four " Tambon Administrative Organizations " ( องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - Tambon Administrative Organizations, TAO):
